Bi-Han, better known as Sub-Zero, is a supporting antagonist in the 1995 live-action film Mortal Kombat. He is an assassin working for Shang Tsung, and is based on the video-game character of the same name.
He was portrayed by French actor and martial artist François Petit.
Biography[]
Mortal Kombat (1995)[]
Sub-Zero was a servant of sorcerer Shang Tsung and was considered one of Outworlds best fighters. He also had a deadly rivaly with fellow Outworld warrior Scorpion, but Shang Tsung managed to make them both his slaves and had them work together. Shang Tsung often used Sub-Zero to attack his enemies or show the Outworld's powers to outsiders. Sub-Zero was first seen in Shang Tsung's boat trying to attack Liu Kang, Sonya and Johnny Cage along with Scorpion. Sonya tried to shoot him but Sub-Zero quickly froze her gun but before managing to attack Raiden appeared and easily disposed both him and Scorpion.
Sub-Zero was next seen in Shang Tsung's island during a banquet. Shang Tsung desired to show the Earthrealm fighters a taste of things to come and had Sub-Zero fight one of his soldiers. The soldier charged but Sub-Zero froze him to death scoring a flawless victory. Sub-Zero would be Liu Kang's first real challenge in the tournament. Kitana who knew how dangerous Sub-Zero was, warned Liu Kang before the fight to use the element that brings life against him. They both went toe to toe until Liu Kang gained the advantage by kicking Sub-Zero back repeatedly. Angry, Sub-Zero tried to freeze his enemy and was about to succeed but Kitana appeared reminding Liu Kang of her advice. Liu Kang threw a bucket of water into Sub-Zero's ice field creating a stalactite that impaled and froze his enemy to death. This defeat forced Shang Tsung to use his reigning champion Goro
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation[]
Sub-Zero was briefly mentioned in Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, when his younger brother saved Kitana and Kung Lao from Smoke. Liu Kang was confused as he thought he was the man he had killed at the tournament, but he was told that the man he killed was actually his older brother. He returns as Noob Saibot, supporting Ermac in the final battle.

- In the cartoon “Mortal Kombat - Defenders of the Realm”, instead of being impaled by an ice spear, He was covered in water thrown by Liu Kang, freezing him within a second.
- This version of Sub-Zero would become a skin for the Mortal Kombat 1 version of the character.
