The Ilian Church is a religious group within the world of Dragalia Lost split into multiple factions. While there are plenty of heroic members of the church, it is made clear throughout the game that the people running the group as a whole are corrupt and not acting with the best intentions in mind, with many being overarching antagonists.
History[]
Long ago, during the First War of the Binding, the mage Ilia came up with the idea of ensuring the safety of humanity and the world by founding a religion that deified dragons and would placate Elysium as well as keep Morsayati sealed away. Thus, when Ilia sacrificed herself and Mordecai to seal away the demon, her mother Meene tore off her wings knowing that doing so would banish her from the faerie kingdom, and founded the Ilian Church under the identity of her adoptive child Ilia. There, she would document important events into the sacred Scrolls of Perdition, such as the creation of Morsayati and the true nature of the church. And, fearing Elysium's wrath, Meene also created a weapon capable of injuring him: Dragalia, a sword forged from the pactstone between her and Midgardsormr Zero, passing it off as Elysium's pactstone with her.[1]
She had children would become debate within the church following her passing. The factions debated on whether the goddess's children should be put in charge or if somebody else should. It was eventually decided to put somebody else in charge and all history of the children was erased, prompting the supporting side to hide the goddess's descendant and keep them safe.
With the new people in power, the belief in the goddess became twisted in the eyes of a number of members.
Factions[]
Southern Ilian Church[]
Perditionist Sect[]
The Perditionists are a fairly recent sect of Ilian believers that believe that due to Morsayati's status as Ilia's child, he deserves to be worshipped as well, claiming that reports of the demon's vile nature may not be completely true. A notable member of this sect is the Paladyn Tobias, who later inherits part of Meene's power after donning an armor inhabited by her soul.

The Apostles[]
Out of all the factions of the church, the Apostles along with their archangels are actually the most morally sound as they work together with the Halidom to solve the problems of corruption across Grastaea. However, there are moments where it is apparent that the ones giving them orders have goals that they find questionable. According to Faris, the apostles are considered expendable, indicating a lack of care for the life of their own.
Ryszarda and Raphael are given orders to bring Nino, who is the daughter of the goddess the church worships, to the northern Church even if they have to do so by force. The reason for the desire for Nino is the Scroll of Perdition. When they don't go through to it, it is made clear that will be punished. It is currently unknown how severe their punishment is or why the northern church wanted the scroll, which the Apostle and her Archangel ponder themselves.
Basileus used to be one of the apostles. However, he eventually admits to never actually being loyal and is only using the church for his own gain. While he is no longer with the apostles though, the fact he works with Graht and Harle indicates that he still has connections with members of the church outside of the apostles.
Former Factions[]
Dyrenell Empire[]
The Dyrenell Empire were once pious believers of the Ilian faith, led by the esteemed saint Saint Dyrenell. However, upon uncovering the Scrolls of Perdition, the saint was disillusioned with the Ilian church's lies and understood the true nature of the Holywyrm Elysium and the creation of Morsayati, they turned their backs on the church and began to worship the demon instead, seeking to bring punishment to Elysium for his deeds.
