Francesca Findabair, known as Enid an Gleanna, is a major character in the Witcher series.
She is an elven sorceress belonging to the Brotherhood of Sorcerers, but after her betrayal on Thanned, she became the queen of Dol Blathanna and one of the members of the Lodge of Sorceresses.
In the Netflix adaptation, she was played by Mecia Simson.
Biography[]
Francesca Findabair was born to the elven daughter of the elven sage Simlas Finn aep Dabairr who had contempt for humans and would always quote to her when there were persecutions of humans against elves. During her youth, Francesca never thought about diplomacy or guilds because she preferred to fight against human expansion. At one point, Francesca ignored her father's request not to go into rebellion against humans because she believed that signing a peace treaty with humans was disgrace to the elves, despite her daughter's pleas, her father ignored her.
So, Francesca decided to join Aelirenn's rebellion with her friends to fight against the persecution of humans against the elves, but Aelirenn's rebellion ended in defeat for the elves, most of the elven rebels including Aelirenn and Francesca's friends perished and Francesca survived the slaughter. After the defeat of Aelirenn's rebellion, the power of the elven race collapsed and Francesca's father, furious for not following his advice, renounced his daughter and never met or talked to her again.
Since her father completely disowned Francesca, she became an independent elven sorceress with most of her father's knowledge. After suppressing Falka's rebellion and executing Falka herself, Francesca joined a group of mages commissioned by the former king of Temeria Goidemer to investigate all the Houtborg triplets, which of the children is Falka's daughter and which are Riannon's. When the mages, including Francesca, who was supposed to know about the elder blood, discovered that Adela is Falka's daughter, aware that Goidemer hates Falka for what she did to his wife Riannon, they decided to cover up from Goidemer so that Adelia, who was two years old, would not be executed. The mages manipulated the Temerian King Goidemer, claiming that it takes a long time and it is difficult to verify which of the children is Falka's descendant.
Some time later, Francesca joined the Brotherhood of Sorcerers in 1263, participating in the First Northern War against Nilfgaard. Francesca, despite the difficult battle of Sodden, won the war against Nilfgaard with the Brotherhood of Sorcerers. 4 years ago, after the end of the war, Francesca became a member of the Chapter of Sorcerers, becoming the most important sorceress on the northern continent as the main leader of this group.
Even though Francesca is a member of the sorcerers' chapter, she was very treacherous when she met with Emhyr. The Emperor of Nilfgaard offered Francesca that if she weakened the kingdoms of the northern states and led the sorcerers' brotherhood, she would become the queen of the newly created elven state of Dol Blathanna, to which Francesca agreed. Wanting to cause another northern war, Francesca began to cooperate with Vilgefortz and other northern sorcerers cooperating with Nilfgaard to carry out an assassination attempt on Thanned.
