Damon Salvatore is one of the main protagonists of the CW television series The Vampire Diaries as well as being one of the main antagonists of series' first season.
He is a 100-year-old vampire who is known for his dark and unpredictable personality. Damon is often portrayed as a charming yet dangerous character who struggles with his own morality and his desire to be loved.
Throughout the series, he is involved in various romantic relationships and has a complicated relationship with his brother Stefan. Damon is known for his wit, sarcasm, and his willingness to do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even if it means hurting others in the process.
He was portrayed by Ian Somerhalder, who also played Adam Knight in Smallville and Charlie Baker in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

- Turning people into vampires without their consent: Damon's Vampire blood was used to turn several people Elina Gilbert and Caroline Forbes. Additionally, Damon has turned two people into vampires against their will, Abby Bennett Wilson and Vicki Donovan. While turning Abby was justified, turning Vicki was a immoral.
- Compelling people: Damon has used his powers of compulsion to control people's minds and make them do his bidding.
- Sexual Abuse: He's known to use his compulsion to force women to serve as living blood-bags, pose as girlfriends, and allow sexual abuse, this constitutes rape. He's done to many women including Caroline Forbes and Andie Star.
- Torture: Damon has been known to use torture as a means of getting information or as a form of punishment.
- Betrayal: Damon has betrayed the trust of his friends and loved ones multiple times throughout the series, often for his own selfish reasons.
- Siring a new breed of vampires: In the later seasons of the show, Damon is responsible for creating a new breed of vampires that are more dangerous and powerful than regular vampires.
