Biography[]

Early Life[]

Anna lived in Mystic Falls in 1864 with her mother Pearl, a successful businesswoman with extensive botanical knowledge. However, after the townspeople and the founding council discovered the existence of vampires, they began to hunt them down. Mother and daughter had to flee the town with the help of another vampire, Katherine Pierce.

Pearl was captured by the council and buried under the Fells' church, according to information provided by Bonnie Bennet's ancestor Emily Bennet. Since then, Anna has tried to find a way to free her mother and the other vampires over a period of 145 years.

Season 1[]

Anna met Jeremy Gilbert at the Mystic Falls library, where she was researching the town's history to find a way to free her mother from the vampire tomb in which she was buried. To achieve her goal, Anna turned Jeremy's classmate Ben and Logan, a local journalist, into vampires. She used them to perform various tasks, such as kidnapping Jeremy's sister and forcing Bonnie to find a way to open the tomb. Despite Anna using Jeremy constantly, she began to have genuine feelings for him. Finally, she managed to free her mother from the grave. Due to Jeremy's suspicions about the existence of vampires, Jeremy cut his hand on purpose so that she would drink her blood and find out for sure.

Jeremy Gilbert and Anna maintained a loving relationship for a time, despite opposition from Pearl, who hated the Gilbert family. However, the relationship came to an end when Jeremy decided to become a vampire in order to try to bring Vicki back, not knowing that she was already dead. Despite this, Anna and Jeremy made up and Anna even enrolled in the Mystic Falls school to be close to him. Unfortunately, Pearl was killed by John Gilbert, but Anna decided not to seek revenge for her death.

After the tragic loss of her mother, Anna found comfort in Jeremy, confiding in her grief. At the Founder's Day celebration in Mystic Falls, Anna and Jeremy were out for a walk, but were surprised by John Gilbert's anti-vampire device. Anna fell to the ground and was knocked out by one of the vampire hunters, and taken to the Gilbert Building for treatment. However, John Gilbert, seeing her so vulnerable, decided to kill her by driving a stake through her heart.

Season 3[]

Anna tried to attack everyone due to her attachment to Jeremy after the other side collapsed, unfortunately Jeremy decided to cut off their relationship so that Ana could rest in peace.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Vampire Physiology:' As a non-original vampire he has the following abilities
    • Super - Strength: Vampires are much stronger than supernatural hunters, immortals, and humans, and they continue to grow stronger as they age. They have the ability to toss an average-size, fully-grown human across a room with great speed and force, lift grown men high off the ground by the throat and snap their necks, cut off a person's head with their bare hands, and rip out internal organs like hearts with little effort. Their strength is also more powerful than that of werewolves in their human form and allows them to jump higher and further than any natural creature. The emotional status of the vampire can also affect their strength, and vampires who feed on humans are stronger than those who feed on animal blood.
    • Super Speed: Vampires can move quickly to cover short distances and appear as vibrating blurs of motion when running across long distances. They have heightened reflexes and dexterity that enable them to catch projectiles such as arrows and thrown stakes with ease.
    • Improved Agility: Vampires have superhuman agility, allowing them to jump, climb, and run at incredible speeds without exhaustion. **Enhanced Senses: Vampires have highly developed senses of hearing, sight, smell, and taste that are far superior to those of huans and werewolves. They can hear whispers from faraway buildings and on phones, but they can also tune out ambient noise. They can smell blood from several meters away, see in total darkness, and taste drugs, alcohol, or vervain in someone's blood.
    • Enhanced Durability: Vampires can withstand a lot of physical damage without being hindered. They can continue to fight even after being shot with wooden bullets, as long as they are not hit in the heart or head. However, they may still react to physical force in a human-like manner, especially young vampires. They can also be stunned or dazed by strikes and trauma, although their tolerance for it will increase as they age.
    • Regeneration: Vampires have a remarkable ability to heal from physical damage within seconds to minutes, including broken bones, gunshots, and stab wounds. However, they still feel the pain of a wound before it heals. Their healing is slower if they feed on animals rather than humans. A werewolf bite is the only injury that a vampire cannot heal on its own, and they cannot heal magical or psychological damage. Vampires cannot grow back body parts, but they can reattach severed limbs.
    • Enhanced Emotions: Vampires experience emotions more intensely than humans. Positive emotions such as love and happiness are magnified, but negative emotions such as sadness, guilt, and anger are also amplified, which can lead to vampires turning off their humanity to block out these emotions. This makes them more calculating and direct, but also turns them into remorseless killers. Turning their humanity back on is difficult as they will feel all their repressed emotions intensely, and this ability fades with age. However, with practice, vampires can learn to control their emotions without turning off their humanity.
    • Inmortality: Vampires stop aging after they are turned and become immune to all conventional illnesses and infections. However, if a human has cancer at the time of their transformation, the newly-turned vampire will still have the disease and their healing factor will speed up the cancer's progression, often leading to the vampire's suicide.
    • Mind Compulsion: Vampires possess the power to manipulate thoughts, emotions, and behavior, and can even modify or erase memories. However, there is a hierarchy in terms of this ability, with Original vampires having a stronger form of compulsion than others. Vampires can only compel humans and not other supernatural beings.
    • Blood Ties: Blood Ties can occur when a human is turned into a vampire with the blood of a vampire they had romantic feelings for. Those with a sire bond are extremely loyal to their sire and will comply with their requests, even if they don't want to. However, the bond only affects their behavior, not their true feelings towards their sire.
    • Telepathy: Vampires have a form of telepathy that allows them to enter the minds of humans and other supernatural beings through tactile contact. It is a difficult ability to master and is usually learned after mind compulsion. The ability weakens a vampire, and it's harder to enter the minds of ancient vampires and Originals. The ability can be used to sort through memories and communicate mentally in emergencies.
    • Dream Manipulation: Vampires can use their telepathic abilities to control dreams and the subconscious of humans and other vampires. With this skill, they can create, modify and manipulate dreams, and even induce nightmares and lucid dreaming. It is easier to learn than other forms of telepathy, and vampires can even manipulate the subconscious of an Original vampire if they are vulnerable enough.
    • Illusions: Vampires have the ability to create illusions in the minds of other vampires, causing them to see or feel things that are not real. This was demonstrated when Lexi made Stefan believe that he had been deprived of blood for years.
    • Bloodlust: A vampire with bloodlust is their appearance hidden under their normal human face. It reveals blood-red sclera, dark veins under the eyes, and extended fangs, which can include their canines and/or premolars. It can be revealed at will or when aroused by blood or intense emotions. The fangs are sharp and can tear into almost any substance. The true face appears for the first time when they drink human blood for the first time or shortly afterward

Relationships[]

Jeremy Gilbert[]

At first, Anna used Jeremy to get his blood to get her mother back. However, in the process, she fell in love with him and began to feel guilty about her plans upon realizing her true feelings. She discovers that Jeremy was also using her to get close to Vicki. Despite this, Anna and Jeremy began dating, but Anna's death tore them apart. When Anna returned as a ghost, Jeremy recognized her as the love of her life and tricked Bonnie into kissing her. Finally, they broke up again.

Pearl Zhu[]

Mother and daughter maintained a close bond, though they had their ups and downs throughout their long lives. Pearl loved her daughter deeply and wished to protect her from harm, especially after the way her ancestor Johnathan Gilbert had hurt them in the past.

Elena Gilbert[]

Elena and Anna did not get along due to Anna dating Elena's brother. Additionally, Anna was responsible for freeing Katherine Pierce and other vampires from the tomb, which led to additional resentment between them. Even after Anna's death, her love affair with Elena's brother was not accepted by her, even as a ghost, due to Anna's past actions.

Ben Mckittrick[]

Ben and Anna had a purely sexual relationship, motivated by the fact that she had turned him into a vampire. Ben fulfilled Anna's requests and tasks to help free her mother from the vampire tombs, until he was killed by Stefan Salvatore.

Damon Salvatore[]

Damon Salvatore supported her in her quest to free the Vampires of Mystic Falls due to his feelings for Katherine Pierce.

John Gilbert[]

After completing his investigation of the supernatural beings of Mystic Falls, John would brutally murder Anna with a stake through her heart.
