The Cohdophian Smuggling Ring are the main antagonists of Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. It's run by Quercus Alba as a smuggling ring in order for him to gain profit. They are responsible for most of the cases in the game and mostly consists of corrupt officials covering the backs of their colleagues in order to keep the Ring in operation. They are most notable for causing the collapse of the country Cohdopia and the KG-8 incident, where an embassy worker named Cece Yew was silenced by a Ring Member named Manny Coachen
Biography[]
After Quercus Alba was awarded the ambassador position after his successful feats as a general, he soon delved into corruptions and decided to run a smuggling ring. As ambassador, he would be able to use his power to thwart of legal threats due to his diplomatic immunity. Eventually he recruited members to aid him with legal assistance, espionage, assassinations, and agentry. He also allied himself with the Amano Group for further aid.
In 2008, a woman by the name of Cece Yew found the smuggling ring's operation and threatened to expose it. Alba sent out Manny Coachen to kill her and had The Amano Group hide the evidence necessary to convict Coachen.
Eventually Tyrell Badd and Byrne Faraday tried to take the smuggling ring down. As a result of this, Alba sent out a woman under the guise of “Calisto Yew”, Cece Yew's sister to spy on their activities. Eventually in 2012, an embassy employee named Deid Mann found the smuggling ring operation and threatened to expose it. Calisto Yew hired a thug named Mack Rell to kill him. Mack Rell was arrested and stood trial with Byrne Faraday as the prosecution and Calisto Yew as his attorney. During the trial, Mack Rell accused Byrne Faraday of forgery which put a halt on the trial. To put an end to the Yatagarasu and cover up loose ends, Calisto Yew murdered both Mack Rell and Byrne Faraday and made it look like they killed each other. Unfortunately for her, Miles Edgeworth figured out who the real culprit was which prompted her to hold the entire courtroom at gunpoint before fleeing. Quercus Alba eventually assigned her in Interpol as “Shih-Na” who were also after the smuggling ring.
Years later, an agent named Cammy Meele was assigned to smuggle a statue for the smuggling ring. She swapped Zinc LeBlanc's bought statue for a counterfeit in order to commit the deed. Unfortunately for her, an Interpol agent by the name of Ackbey Hicks was investigating the statue which prompted her to push him off the railing, killing him. Although she tried to frame it on Miles Edgeworth, she was caught and arrested for her crimes.
Interpol was also tracking down Ernesto Amano who helped aided in the cover up of the KG-8 Incident. After Ernest was caught tampering with the investigation into Colin Devorae's murder in order to protect his son, Agent Lang was given grounds to arrest him. However the arrest was thwarted by Jacques Portsman who protected Ernest Amano and would try him in order to sweep his crimes under the rug as the prosecution of the case.
Eventually Buddy Faith caught Jacques Portsman in the act of stealing the KG-8 file, prompting the latter to kill his partner in cold blood. Despite his attempts to take over the case himself to draw incriminating evidence away from himself, it proved futile as Miles Edgeworth figured his crime out anyways, leading to Portsman's arrest.
Eventually Manny Coachen went on to betray the smuggling ring by hiring Mask Demaque II to swap the two Primidux statues in order to force Quercus Alba to give up his country's sway of affairs or risking to confess to the smuggling ring. As a result, Alba killed them both as Shih-Na helped him forge the crime scenes along with delivering him the counterfeit plates. After the investigation team was gaining on him, Alba attempted to invoke diplomatic immunity to halt the investigation. However, Agent Lang thwarted him by showing the embassy his misdeeds as ambassador prompting his strip from power. After a long and grueling battle of wits between Alba and Edgeworth regarding the murders in the embassy, Alba was ultimately defeated, arrested, and incarcerated for his crimes putting an end to the smuggling ring and his ally, the Amano Group.
