~ Andrealphus' villainous breakdown while fighting I.M.P, using every bit of power he’s got to destroy them and Stolas |
Marquis Andrealphus of the Ars Goetia, or just Andy for short, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Stella) of Season 2 in the adult animated web series Helluva Boss.
He is a highly intelligent and strategic marquis of the Ars Goetia and brother of Stella, who assists her in her divorce with Stolas; his brother in-law. Clearly the more intelligent of the two siblings, Andrealphus actively manipulates the events around him so that Stella will gain as much as possible from the divorce. Andrealphus' plans end up succeeding when he manipulates events around him so that Satan would strip Stolas of all his power and influence. He is one of Stolas' two archenemies, along with Stella.
He is voiced by Jason LaShea, who also voiced Bluster in Care Bears: Unlock the Magic and Korvaak, the Eldritch Sun of the Forgotten Gods DLC for Grim Dawn.

Appearance[]
Andrealphus is a slender, peacock-like avian demon characterized by his elegant features. He has a short, light blue beak and piercing cyan eyes devoid of pupils and irises, with periwinkle upper eyelids adding to his striking appearance. His feathers are predominantly white, complemented by short, slicked-back periwinkle hair with scattered dark blue spots. His long tail feathers showcase a seamless gradient from cyan to white, with no visible outlines. The interior of his beak shares the same cyan hue as his tongue.
He is dressed in an opulent, dress-like coat in shades of light blue, adorned with intricate white details. The bottom of the coat mimics the appearance of his tail feathers, and it features a large cyan fur collar with a snowflake design prominently displayed at the front. Beneath the coat, Andrealphus wears a navy long-sleeved shirt with a high, white-trimmed collar and four white buttons, paired with white pants and navy over-the-knee heeled boots. His ensemble is completed with white opera gloves and a cyan snowflake-shaped crown, enhancing his regal and flamboyant demeanor.
Personality[]
Andrealphus is an intelligent, arrogant and opportunistic demon, who convinces his sister to not kill Stolas immediately in order to get him to give away his belongings, instead of having Via get it all. While he's usually calculating and clam, Andrealphus is still prone to outbursts of frustration or anger, as he hates when Stella makes the negotiations with Stolas harder and screams at her for her shortsightedness. Despite this, he seems to care for his sister, trying to get her to gain Octavia's belongings. Though he also appears to play her as a puppet, as demonstrated when he used her frustration to sway her and treated her in a patronizing way. Whether or not he truly cares for her or sees her as expendable is yet to be seen.
He's very manipulative and cunning, as he was briefly able to manipulate Satan and almost everyone in court to kill Blitzø and Stolas so he can get the opportunity to rule, and took pleasure in seeing them suffer. But his arrogance briefly on lead him to only take over while Stolas is only banished for a 100 years.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Cryokinesis: He has the ability to create elemental cold, enabling him to freeze a victim in a block of ice or create bridges and ledges out of ice to stand on. These abilities may be tied to his emotions, as he was shown accidentally freezing his unfortunate butler when angry at Stella. He can also form tendrils of ice with bladed edges to use both as weapons and restraints. His most dangerous way shown of using this power is to create a giant dragon out of animated ice.
- High intelligence: Andrealphus is one of the smartest characters seen in the series, being able to easily trick the whole Ars Goetia and Satan himself into making the trial against I.M.P. go in a way that guarantees his victory.
- Regeneration: Andrealphus has a high healing factor to make up for his sucky durability. This is seen when he quickly healed all the damage Stolas did to his face, or regenerated his throat after Loona bit it off.
- Immortality: As an Ars Goetia, Andrealphus is completely immortal with the exception of angelic weaponry, the one thing that could end his life. This also means he can't die of old age, with him outright saying that "eternity is a long time" to Stella and being angry that Stolas will only be powerless for a hundred years, like it was a short amount of time for him.
Weaknesses[]
- Limited durability: While his powers over ice make him a force to be reckoned with, his physical body is frail. In "Sinsmas", Stolas is able to take him by surprise and badly hurt him with only his fists, though Andrealphus recovers fairly quickly. But he was still proven to physically weak, and wouldn’t have the guts to fight Stolas or I.M.P without his powers.
- Egotism: Despite his intellect and good manipulation skills, Andrealphus is very arrogant and cares deeply for his image. While he generally boasts a lot and tends to underestimate his opponents, which lead to his poor performance against I.M.P., whom proven be much smarter than him and stronger together. And this is fully exploited when Octavia and Blitzø trick him into letting Stolas and the rest of I.M.P. go by pointing out that he'd look like a joke to his sister and other Goetias if anyone found out three lowly imps and a hellhound managed to overpower him in a fight. This caused him to immediately back off while claiming the protagonists are not worth his time, but promising revenge on them and Stolas.
- Lack of experience: While Andrealphus is extremely powerful, he has clearly never been in an actual fight before the events of "Sinsmas". Because of this, I.M.P. - despite being no royal Hellborn demons - are able to challenge him in a fight due to their superior experience as assassins an easily overpower him.
Biography[]
Andrealphus is Stella's older brother. It is implied that they're roughly the same age, and that they were close in childhood. He is first mentioned in the Season 2 premiere "The Circus", where Stella threatens to bring him in when Stolas says he'll divorce her, before Stolas rebukes her and says he doesn't care what Andrealphus thinks.
Andrealphus debuts in "Western Energy", where Stolas begins parceling out his belongings with Stella, with Andrealphus being on Stella's side despite officially being a neutral party. However, Striker bursts into the room and kidnaps Stolas to slowly kill him elsewhere. Back in his castle, Andrealphus convinces Stella to keep Stolas alive to get his belongings, assuring her he'll be dead eventually.
In "Mastermind", upon learning that Stolas had been allowing I.M.P. to use his Grimoire, Andrealphus comes up with the idea to falsely accuse Blitzø of stealing it so as to steal more power from him. After reporting the "crime" to Satan and inviting the Ars Goetia (sans Stolas to ensure a skewed trial), Andrealphus has I.M.P arrested and brought before a court, where he purposefully has Blitzø and his coworkers gagged to ensure they can't defend themselves, despite that they didn't even try fighting back. Despite opposition from one Ars Goetia member Vassago, who points out the quirk of Stolas not being at the trial concerning him, Andrealphus manages to successfully convince the jury of Blitzø's guilt, even hiring Striker to give false testimony of being hired to kill Stolas for him. This claim is refuted by Blitzø, Asmodeus and Beelzebub, the former pointing out his status as an assassin and the latter two remarking on his generally benign nature when not on the job, which would contradict such an act.
However, Satan, uncaring for the lives of the I.M.P, decides to simply execute them on live television as a threat to the rest of Hell, with only Asmodeus, Beelzebub and Blitzø's friends voting against this proposition. Blitzø manages to successfully convince Satan not to execute Loona, Millie and Moxxie as they were simply following his orders, and with his last words remarks that all he was trying to do was show the upper classes of Hell what the commoners were capable of. Just as the executioner is about to behead Blitzø, as the other are tearful seeing him about to die, Stolas arrives and deflects their axe, revealing that he was the one who illegally lent the grimoire to Blitzø and demands that he be punished instead to save Blitzø. Thus, I.M.P are set free, but Blitzø gets thrown out of the courtroom trying save Stolas. As a heartbroken Blitzø reunites with his tearful friends who are very glad hes alive and Stolas accepts his execution, only to be told that as an Ars Goetia, his life is valued more by Hell's judicial branch and he won't be executed.
Satan ponders the appropriate punishment to give Stolas, to which Andrealphus suggests having him banished and his possessions given to him. Satan accepts this proposition and thus, Stolas's assets and powers are seized and he is reduced to a commoner (though only for a 100 years, much to Andrealphus's frustration). With that, Stolas, weakened and humiliated, as Andrealphus tells Satan he'll take his place for time being and taunts Stolas is tossed out of the courtroom, where Blitzø helps him up and offers him a home with him and Loona for the time being.
In "Sinsmas", after a month of Stolas being banished, Andrealphus has taken over Stolas’ castle and has his sister back in, they stop Stolas from trying to contact Octavia.
But after a breakdown Stolas goes the place anyway while Blitzø and the others were gone and Andrealphus stops him again, as Stolas demands him to let him see his daughter, as Andrealphus taunts Stolas again, telling what he is now but Andrealphus gets violently punched in the nose by a very infuriated Stolas, striking his last nerve and finally making Andrealphus shut up as Stolas beats him up as Andrealphus whines in pain. Then he pushes Stolas back with his ice powers, enraged at him for hurting him, he attempts to kill him now, not caring about the consequences of what the Goetia will do if they find out when he kills Stolas, as Stolas still much more justifiably angry and showing no fear telling Andrealphus to kill him, as well as insulting him, calling him a “p*ssy*.
I.M.P arrive just in time, as Andrealphus continues to underestimate Blitzø, thinking he’s no threat.

Trivia[]
- Andrealphus' mansion is similar to Elsa's ice castle from Disney's Frozen. Blitzo even insults him (making a direct reference to the movie) by calling him "Elsa" in "Sinsmas".
- Andrealphus is confirmed to be gay.[1] Despite this, he makes several incestuous remarks on Stella's looks.
- It has been speculated this is because he is closeted and desperately trying to pass off as straight (which is backed up by him addressing Stolas as a deviant in "Mastermind"). Another popular theory is that he's indirectly insulting her by claiming her attractiveness is the only redeeming quality she has.
- Despite Stella being the main antagonist of the show, Andrealphus is proven to be a more competent threat, as he was responsible for Satan banishing Stolas from his power in order for Stella to keep Octavia from Stolas, and actively tries to use the situation to gain more power for himself whereas Stella only cares for vengeance.
- Much like Stolas himself, "Andrealphus" is the name of a demon that is mentioned in Johann Weyer's tome on demonology Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, which was in turn based on The Lesser Key of Solomon. Much like the version here, he is a Marquis of Hell who is bird-like in appearance, taking the form of a peacock. Commanding over thirty legions of devils, he is also known to be learned in astronomy (possibly what Stolas' Grimoire alludes to) and geometry.
- He's heavily implied to share a negative history with fellow Goetia Vassago. The latter is introduced angrily staring at Andrealphus once he enters court, they later argue mid-trial (with Vassago calling Andrealphus an "arrogant asshole" while Andrealphus got annoyed by Vassago merely speaking up), and then Andrealphus smugly smirks at Vassago when Blitz claims he could've easily killed Stolas himself if he wanted to.
- Andrealphus is the first powerful demon I.M.P were able to fight and briefly defeat (for now) to save Stolas, as they manged to overpower him with their teamwork and Octavia’s help, ultimately proving to be stronger than one powerful demon when they work together. Also due that Andrealphus has no fighting experience.
