San Francisco is a location that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog film series produced by Paramount Pictures and its spin-offs. It is a large city in California. It is the home city of Rachel and Jojo.

During his attempt to escape Earth, Sonic the Hedgehog accidently sent his Rings to San Francisco. After having travelled there with the aid of Tom Wachowski, however, Sonic would find himself having his first battle against the evil Dr. Robotnik. This incident led to the formation of G.U.N.

Description[]

San Francisco is identical to its real-life counterpart. Located at the end of a peninsula overlooking the bay, the city of San Francisco is a densely populated glimmering urban center on California's northern coastline. Known for its steep rolling hills and foggy landscape, San Francisco has long been a cultural and tourist icon. The city boasts an array of architectural marvels like the famous Golden Gate Bridge and the Transamerica Pyramid, one of the city's tallest structures.

History[]

Film series[]

Sonic the Hedgehog[]

After having received an application from Green Hills' sheriff Tom Wachowski, the San Francisco Police Department ultimately decided to let Tom join their team. With Tom and his wife, Maddie, preparing to move to San Francisco, Maddie would fly there with Ozzy ahead of Tom to check out some new potential homes in some neighborhoods. While there, she bunked with her sister Rachel and niece Jojo. A freak accident soon after led to Sonic sending his bag of Rings to the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid.

Days later, Tom arrived at Rachel's house with an unconscious Sonic. After trying up an obstinate Rachel, who wanted nothing to do with Tom, Maddie got Sonic back to consciousness with some smelling salt. While Tom then convinced Maddie to aid him and Sonic in getting the latter off Earth, Sonic received some new shoes from Jojo. Borrowing Rachel's car, Tom, Maddie, and Sonic drove to downtown San Francisco to retrieve Sonic's Rings from the Transamerica Pyramid. To get to the closed-off roof on the building, Tom and Maddie hid Sonic in a bag while Tom used his police authority to get the keys to the roof. There, Sonic retrieved his Rings and had a heartfelt goodbye with Tom. As Sonic tried using a Ring to head to the Mushroom Planet however, his attempt got foiled by the arrival of Dr. Robotnik in his Eggpod and his Badnik drones. With the group surrounded, Sonic pushed Tom and Maddie off the roof, before proceeding to outmaneuver and destroy Robotnik's Badniks. As Sonic headed down the building to rescue Tom and Maddie however, he got hit by a blow from the laser fired by Robotnik's Eggpod, which used Sonic's power-infused quill to keep up with him. Fortunately, Sonic managed to wake up while falling down the building and used a Ring to send Tom and Maddie to Green Hills before they hit the ground. Handing in the streets of San Francisco himself, Sonic picked up his scattered Rings and began running away from Robotnik and his Eggpod through the city's streets. When he realized he could not outrun Robotnik however, Sonic used a Ring to escape to Paris, only for Robotnik to follow him through the portal he made.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2[]

Due to the incident in San Francisco, G.U.N. was formed to deal with extraterrestrial threats to Earth.

Comics[]

Sonic the Hedgehog: The Adventures of Sonic & Donut Lord[]

When Tom Wachowski and his wife, Maddie, prepared to move to San Francisco, Maddie would fly there ahead of Tom. Not long after, a freak accident led to Sonic sending his bag of Rings to the roof of the Transamerica Pyramid.[1]

When Tom and Sonic arrived in San Francisco to retrieve Sonic's Rings, the pair picked up Maddie on their way to the Transamerica Pyramid. There, Tom and Maddie managed to smuggle Sonic up to the roof of the building in a bag. After finding Sonic's Rings though, Dr. Robotnik showed up in his Eggpod with his Badnik drones. As Robotnik opened fire upon the trio however, Sonic got an idea. Telling Tom and Maddie of what they had to do, Sonic pushed the pair off the Transamerica Pyramid before running after them as they fell. He then used two Rings, opening portals to Green Hills and Egypt respectively, with Tom and Maddie falling through the one to Green Hills while Sonic fled through the other, with Robotnik hot on his heels.[1]
