The Drill Drive (ドリルドライブ Dorirudoraibu?) is a move from the Sonic the Hedgehog series that appears in Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. It is a technique where the user does a spiraling drop in midair to attack opponents. It is the equivalent to Knuckles the Echidna's Drill Claw.

Description[]

When performing the Drill Drive, the user stops in midair and dives straight downward while twirling around their vertical axis. Depending on the user, the Drill Drive's execution may vary; when diving, Rouge points both of her feet downward in a drill shape while Chaos points its fists downward instead. As the move is performed, the user turns into a drilling projectile that can pierce through enemies and will descend at such a fast rate that they leave afterimages.

In gameplay, the Drill Drive is useful for reaching targets below the playable characters just as they jump/fly over them with an attack while allowing the player to damage enemies, break weak obstacles and certain platforms, and open Item Boxes in the user's path.

To use the Drill Drive in gameplay, the player must press DreamcastB/X Button Dreamcast/SNNBGAMECUBEDISCO while in midair. While falling due to the move, the Drill Drive can be canceled before hitting the ground, leaving the user able to either fall normally or use glide. This makes the Drill Drive a quick way for the player to descend. If the user touches the ground with the Drill Drive, they will automatically perform Dig (in Rouge's case, she must possess the Pick Nails for this to work). In addition, Rouge's Drill Claw can be enhanced with the Iron Boots, allowing it to break Steel Containers.
