Prison Island in its sunken form is an area in Xenoblade Chronicles. It is visited after the battle against Lorithia in the Bionis' Interior.

Geography[edit]

Prison Island itself looks almost identical during the second visit. However, more of the island is explorable. The most noticeable difference is that due to its location inside the Bionis, it looks somewhat darker than before, surrounded by a red sky. A glowing mass of energy can be seen gathering at the peak. The island is also populated by a much greater amount and variety of creatures, most of which are entirely unique to this area.

Thanks to the newly accessible parts of the island, more can be seen about its nature. Broadly speaking, Prison Island was built by and for Giants, all hewn from black stone. A Banquet Hall and kitchen with Giant-sized furniture and utensils, a battle arena where fights were staged, and a cathedral high up on the island, likely intended for worship of Zanza. Before the Great Battle, it is likely that Prison Island was intended to house and keep entertained the followers of Zanza. Rather than the ethereal clouds that granted passage through the island on the first visit, transporters of unusual make, most likely Giant technology, are what allow for movement between the different parts of the island.

Story[edit]

When Zanza is reawakened, he appears on the Prison Terrace to sink it into Eryth Sea and inside the Bionis.

After defeating Lorithia in the Bionis' Interior, the party follows Dickson through a portal he leaves behind to Prison Island. They travel up the island until they reach the Arena, at which point Dickson reappears to have the party face off against some monsters, claiming that they must overcome them to stand a chance against him.

Taking the transporter to the top of the island, the party confronts Dickson on the Prison Terrace. He transforms into his Giant form to fight the party, and though he has the upper hand at first, he is brought down after Shulk and Fiora combine their power. Dickson transforms back into his Homs form and surrenders, refusing to give them the satisfaction of watching his death. Shulk feels grief from having killed him, but the party advances to confront Zanza.
