This is a link to the query to find a human with WorldCat Identities ID (superseded) but no WorldCat Entities:

Task description

1. For a human with both a P7859 (P7859) & a WorldCat Entities ID (P10832), delete the superseded WorldCat Identities ID.
2. For a human with a P7859 (P7859) but no WorldCat Entities ID (P10832), query that WorldCat Identities ID. WorldCat will redirect most, but certainly not all, of the time to the new WorldCat Entities ID. If found, insert the WorldCat Entities ID & delete the superseded WorldCat Identities ID.

I agree. P7859 statements should only be deleted if a P10832 is there.

There is an additional complication. I have placed multiple instances of WorldCat Identities ID (superseded) (P7859) when each applied to the same item. WorldCat has not been careful about consolidating duplicate items; this not only applies to the Identities ID but to the OCLC control number (P243) as well. However, since clicking through on WorldCat Identities ID that have no corresponding WorldCat Entities lead to a page not found message, we should consider whether we should delete all WorldCat Identities ID (superseded) (P7859) when a WorldCat Entities ID (P10832) entity is present.

Also, perhaps we should not limit this to humans. I just thought that humans were the most important to process first. Peaceray (talk) 19:34, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

• Google Cache is permanently shutting down. All links starting with https://webcache.googleusercontent.com are dead: News story.

Task description

• See work done at Enwiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Link_rot/URL_change_requests#Google_cache
  • There is a tool for parsing GC links to find the original source URL: https://github.com/greencardamom/Googcacheparse
  • Each Google Cache link logically has 4 possible outcomes:
    1. Source URL is live: Remove the GC link and replace with the source URL
    2. Source URL is dead and archive URL is not available: Remove the GC link and replace with the source URL and a dead link template
    3. Source URL is dead and archive URL is available: Remove the GC link and replace with the archive URL of the source URL
    4. Source URL is dead and archive URL of the Google Cache URL is available: Replace with the archive of the Google Cache URL

Make any adjustments to the above for Wikidata. Experience has shown #1 is most common and #4 is least common.

Since I already did this for Enwiki and have a bot programmed for it, I might be of help. I don't have time to develop a bot for Wikidata. If someone wants to send me data in a file extracted from Wikidata, which I process, then you can take the output file and feed it back into Wikidata, that would be fine also.

The website nomisweb.co.uk is used as a reference on many items for British places. However, they have changed their URLs and all the links are broken now. They used to look like this:

It might be useful to have a bot make edits like this: [1]

The key points are:

• Instance of a scientific or academic publication
• Label and title include HTML <i> tag pair
• HTML wraps the name of a taxon
• Possible white space issues (not necessarily present in every case)

Might be better to write the corrected label in mul instead of a single language.

• This really seems needed since there are so many items about studies (btw despite of that most of the top 1000 studies according to altmetrics per month are not in Wikidata so it's mostly low-impact / low-cited studies that are on WD). I asked about fixing this issue with titles here. Hi Flominator, this task should be doable with https://ranker.toolforge.org/. A wrote a query that gives items that have a deprecated P131 statement and a normal P131 statement and where the deprecated value is a subclass of former district of Switzerland (Q17278014). However, it also gives some redudant P131 = canton statements like this or this which should not be ranked as prefered. Hi Flominator, I think every Swiss municipality should be now fixed. I run some queries with the Ranker tool and did the rest manually. Except here's a couple cases I couldn't figure out:

• Hemberg (Q65631) (uses a constituency which is marked as an "error"?)
• Berken (Q67803) (has Oberaargau (Q678827) both as former and current district?)

@Ameisenigel and @Pppery: I have started the bot and it has added links from shnwikinews to wikidata (and a lot of them too: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Contributions/Dexbot&target=Dexbot&dir=prev&offset=20250119032126) but my bot doesn't have the rights to delete the interwiki links because I somehow messed up my bot passwords I think. Thanks. My script (https://public-paws.wmcloud.org/User:Pppery/Ad-Hoc/Interwikis.ipynb) is still showing ~300 pages with local interwikis. It looks like they are evenly split between the following scenarios:

Templates where the interwikis links are within <noinclude> tags or on the doc page.

Categories where there is a conflict between the Wikidata item for the category and the Wikidata item for the topic

Cases I can't figure out like n:shn:ဝီႇၶီႇၶၢဝ်ႇ:Make lead

With the advent of mul, it may be reasonable to add the taxon name (P225) value for items that have it as also the mul value for it, as scientific names are intended to be valid across languages.

I do not have enough experience with mul or editing labels, though, so I bring it here to see if someone else has ideas about how/if this should be done.

Task description

I noticed many items about people do not have given name (P735) and family name (P734) set (example) or only one of these set (example).

I think these props only make sense if they are set on all the items, otherwise they can't really be used. Furthermore, if one for example wants to show a table and would like to see related people (of same family) next to each other, then one would need the family name being set on the item which it often isn't. In any case, it would be a huge time sink to set manually when it can just be set by a bot.

Presumably, there is a difficulty with artist names that look like human names (example: Extra Terra (Q124791213)). I think that could be solved by checking if the name is registered as a name in Wikidata (instance of: xy given name). One could also check if e.g. occupation (P106)→musician (Q639669) (subclass of artist) is set. --Prototyperspective (talk) 00:09, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

• Missed one further complication besides artist names: pseudonymous people where the pseudonym is a normal name. I think populating the first (and middle) and last name property for items that is most often correct and rarely false is better than not having these set. One could then just remove/replace wherever it was set falsely. However, I think this problem can be solved by simply not writing the names to items that have a) text-string "pseudonym" anywhere in the item/description or b) have the name property already set (to unknown value or anonymous). Secondly, please have the bot write this inferable data regularly – so not just once in e.g. 2025 but for example once every month (it would not overwrite existing name properties). --Prototyperspective (talk) 16:24, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
