Another great Pigeon book by Mo Willems. I really enjoyed this story. It reminded me of "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus". It's about Pigeon and he has a hot dog and is excited to eat it and along comes The Duckling. He questions the Pigeon about the hot dog over and over and Pigeon gets frustrated. The Duckling wants to taste it, but Pigeon is being selfish. In the end Duckling shares the idea to share the hotdog and Pigeon loves the idea. I love the illustrations.
Very cute story. Being a mom, it made me think of my son. It's about a little frog and the mother. The mother is saying to leap all over these different places, but then to always leap back home to her. It is a predictable text that I think kids would really enjoy. I would love to make this one of my night time books for my little son.
This is a great story about a young girl who looks forward to going to her grandparents house. They have a window in their kitchen that is called their "Hello-goodbye window". Many things are centered around this window and there are many experiences that happen too. It is a great story about the important things in life. The little things do matter. I loved the illustrations too, they were very bright and vibrant.
I loved this book. It was one that I couldn't put down. I wanted to keep reading it every time I had to stop. It is a story about dealing with changes in life and that life does go on. She and Miss Eula, which is her grandmother write letters to each other throughout the story and it was nice to hear the connection they have and how she seems to always look to her for advice in life. Very cute story. I think kids could really relate to it. Would make a perfect read aloud and could introduce letter writing.
I love Flat Stanley. This is a great book and would make a great read aloud. Stanley is a boy who cannot stay normal. Certain things happen and he becomes flat. He is not afraid of his flatness and finds ways to help other people in the mean time. It is a great story to introduce fantasy and fiction in a chapter book. A real boy could never be flat.
This is a great rhyming book. It is about a dog who runs away to his owners school and is there with him at school. He does everything the kids are doing. In the end he is invited back to school the next day. Very cute story.
I really enjoyed reading this to my kids. It is a book about the differences in our appearances. It is a great introduction to early readers about multicultural literature and diversity. I loved the close up real photographs on each page. Near the end it displays what it would look like if everyone looks the same. Great book to lead to a great discussion.
I thought this book was great. I loved the little peas and the illustrations of them doing different occupations. The kids loved hearing the letters and all the jobs that started with each letter. It turned into a discussion about what they want to be when they grow up. Great book to use when introducing the alphabet.
I enjoyed reading this book. Epossumundas is a very interesting character. He goes to visit his aunt and is given things to bring back. He takes the directions literally and messes everything up. It is a great book.
Such a beautiful book. I love this fable of the Lion and the Mouse, but Jerry Pinkney did such a wonderful job telling this story through illustrations alone. It is a wordless book, but you can still follow the story through the pictures.
I really liked this book. I enjoy reading a lot of Jan Brett's books, but this was a different type for her. Her illustrations were the same, but she didn't have her borders and side pictures. It is a different take on the original Beauty and the Beast, but still a great story. The illustrations were beautiful.
I really like Todd Parr's books. The illustrations are great. I love how he uses so many bold colors. The illustrations are so simple too, but are also so strong. I read this book to my class when I found out we were getting a new student with special needs. It talks about all the differences we have as individuals and how it's okay to be different and that we are all special in our own way. I really loved reading it and the discussion that continued afterwards.
This is a great interactive book to read with kids. I read it to my kindergartners and they loved it. It starts with a dot and then it tells the reader to do certain things and what ever they do appears on the next page. Such a clever idea. I really enjoyed reading it.
I thought this was a very cute book. It's about a little girl and she is saying she isn't going to paint no more. She goes through and says different things and rhymes them with a body part that she is going to paint. An example is, "It's ain't no harm, if I paint my arm". In the end she is covered in paint.
I absolutely love this book. I loved the play on the situations a baby goes through. They really are the boss and I was able to personally relate to this book. I am a new mom and I have a "boss baby" of my own at home. I thought the literal illustrations were pretty funny. Very cute book and would love to share with every new mom I know.
I think this is a great book to talk about the bus. So many of my kids ride the bus and it's great for them to see and hear about the bus from such a happy little character. It talks about what the buses do through out the day and the places they go. I love the illustrations too.
I love this book. It's about an old man who thinks his house it too noisy. So he goes to get advice from the wise old man. He tells him to put in a whole bunch of random, noisy animals. Throughout the story his house becomes louder and louder and each time he returns to the wise old man for more advice. In the end the wise old man tell him to take out all of the animals and his house is finally quiet. He realizes it was quiet before.
I really enjoyed reading this book. We are starting to talk about Fall and leaves so I thought it would be appropriate. I love how it talks about the leaves and why they change color. It is very detailed how it happens. My favorite part of the book is when they talk about a change happening, there is a picture that says "take a closer look" and it is a zoomed in photo of the change taking place. It's nice for kids to see this up close.
I enjoyed reading this little book. It is a book all about sea horses. There are real photographs which is nice for kids to see the realia instead of cartoons or drawings. I thought it would be nice to share this book when we are talking about ocean and sea creatures.
I really like this book to introduce the butterfly life cycle. It is a very detailed text because of it's pictures. There are step by step pictures that show the cycle. It is divided into chapters focusing on each stage. There are captions and labels on all of the pictures.
I thought this book was great. It had a little bit more detail than others I have seen, but it is a higher level text. I liked that it had captions, diagrams, labels and many different facts. It went into greater detail than just the basics of the life cycle of a frog.
I thought this was a great book to tell about frogs. It didn't only tell about the life cycle it also gave information about what different frogs look like and do. It was a written in a rhyme, which I enjoyed. I really enjoyed the pictures too. They weren't real photographs, but they were very realistic the way the illustrator drew them and painted them. I can't wait to share this with my kids.
I really liked this book. I felt like it went into great detail, but not to heavy on the information about the life cycle of a frog. I thought the pictures were really great too. Very clear and easy to understand. Would definitely share with my students.
This book is about many different things you might see in the ocean. I liked the pictures and the descriptions about each animal. I really like how they also give the pronunciation of each big word they use. I feel like the book kind of jumped around talking about facts. Not a favorite of mine.
This is a beautiful book. It is a pop up book about bugs you might see in the garden. Butterflies, beetles, ladybugs, grasshoppers and dragonflies. The pictures are real photographs and the author turned it into a pop up book that just comes clear off the page. There is a little bit about each bug on the each page and on the last page it's a pop up of all the bugs in the garden.
I tried to read listen to this book in the car. It was too hard to follow so I decided to buy the book and I couldn't put it down. It was such a great story about love and loss, friendship, struggles with getting older and finding yourself. I really enjoyed the story about Elise and her journey to find out what the eight keys were for. Elise lost her mom at birth and then her dad three years later to cancer. She now lives with her Aunt Bessie and Uncle Hugh. Elise has many struggles in school with a bully named Amanda, with her best friend Franklin and with her new journey to being in middle school and the work load. Elise turns 12 and receives her last letter from her dad on her birthday. He says that he has left something for her. She discovers a key with her name on it and wonders what it is for. She remembers that in the barn at her house, upstairs there are eight doors. She has never known what they were for. Throughout the story these random keys are showing up everywhere and she keeps opening the doors to see what her father left for her. I won't tell you what is in these doors because that is part of the story. I highly recommend this book. In the end she was able to find herself.
This is the first book of the Shadow Children series. This was such a great book. It is about a time in history where you could only have two children. If you had anymore they were hidden from the Population Police. Luke is the main character in this book along with another one of the shadow children, Jen. He used to be able to go outside of his house into his back yard, but now there is a new housing development being built so he is now longer allowed outside. One day he sees a girls face in a window across the way at a house that he knows two children already live. He realizes she is one of the other hidden or shadow children. They decide to risk it and venture out and end up meeting many other shadow children like themselves. In the end the risks they take end up changing their lives and their families lives forever. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. I am hoping that they just keep getting more exciting.
This is a great book. It is a book that I love to read to younger kids because they really get into the predictable pattern and help me say parts of the book. It is great because it introduces the alphabet, but in a fun way. All the letters are trying to make it up the coconut tree, but they don't know if there will be enough room. The kids love seeing the letters all crazy after they fall out of the coocnut tree. One of my all time favorite books.
I absolutely love this book. I really enjoy reading all of David Shannon's books, especially the David books. In this book David is going to school and is doing things that we as teachers, see everyday in the classroom. He gets in trouble for not raising his hand, chewing gum, writing on the desks and many other behaviors. He ends up having to clean all the desks after school as a consequence for his behaviors. In the end he goes home with a gold star hoping he learned his lesson.
I absolutely love this book! Another great one by Mo Willems! I love how it's an interactive book with the kids. The two characters Elephant and Piggie realize they are in a book. They figure out that they can make the reader say just about anything and they think it is hilarious. It reminded me of a book I read when I was younger, The Monster At the End of This Book. It too was kind of interactive and I always loved answering Grover's questions, just like Elephant and Piggie. I think that this would be a great book to introduce to new readers. I can't wait to read it to my Kindergartners.
