When you look up in the sky and see the sun, do you know that you are looking at a star? The sun gives Earth light and heat. Do you know how long it takes light from the sun to reach us on Earth?

Young readers ages six and seven will learn about the sun, its age, its place in our solar system, how it differs from Earth, and more in this Scholastic Science Vocabulary Reader that introduces first- and second-grade students to the star that is the center of our solar system. Using pictures, show more diagrams, and a simple text to help strengthen reading skills and vocabulary, the book addresses three main topics: What Is the Sun?, The Hot Center, and The Super Sun!. In each section, Fast Fact boxes relate snippets of information related to the sun.

A glossary and three comprehension questions help young readers assess their understanding of the information presented in the book.

Highly recommended, especially for students interested in science, the sun, the solar system, and /or space exploration.

I thought this book was great. It had a little bit more detail than others I have seen, but it is a higher level text. I liked that it had captions, diagrams, labels and many different facts. It went into greater detail than just the basics of the life cycle of a frog.
I thought this was a good and informative book. I think that students will enjoy having the pictures and will be able to follow along, learn more vocabulary words, and learn interesting facts about the sun. Altough, I think the book could have been a little more interesting, I am afraid that students would get bored. I am sure that there are specific students would enjoy it more though than others.
This is a great way to introduce a lesson on quotation marks. It's funny and silly, so kids love it.
