Summary

The Forgotten Madman and Madman's Escort are Chalice Dungeon Bosses in Bloodborne. They are former members of the Healing Church that have been driven insane in the Hintertomb Labyrinth. While they wear tattered rags, their weapons are as sharp as they were on the day these two Tomb Prospectors entered the Labyrinth. The Madman’s Escort wields a Kirkhammer, a weapon of the Healing Church Hunters. The Forgotten Madman himself wields a Holy Blade and a Rifle, and uses an Empty Phantasm Shell, an item of high-ranking Church Members, to empower his Holy Blade with Arcane strength. But the most absolute telling weapon wielded by the Forgotten Madman is A Call Beyond, the ultimate weapon of the Healing Church, used only by their highest-ranking members.

Origin: Bloodborne

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown

Classification: Humans, Hunters, Former Healing Church Tomb Prospectors

Powers and Abilities:

Attack Potency: Large Island level+ (Possesses both A Call Beyond, which is this powerful, as well as the Augur of Ebrietas, which summons part of Ebrietas as an attack)

Speed: At least Massively Hypersonic, likely higher Combat Speed and Reactions

Lifting Strength: At least Class M, likely higher

Range: Extended Melee Range with Ludwig's Holy Blade and Kirkhammer, Tens of Meters with Ludwig's Rifle, Augur of Ebrietas, and A Call Beyond

Standard Equipment:
  • Ludwig's Holy Blade: A trick weapon typically used by Healing Church hunters. It is said that the silver sword was employed by Ludwig, the first hunter of the church. When transformed, it combines with its sheath to form a greatsword.
  • Kirkhammer: A trick weapon typically used by Healing Church hunters. On the one side, an easily handled silver sword, on the other, a giant obtuse stone weapon, characterized by a blunt strike and extreme force of impact.
  • Ludwig's Rifle: A rifle typically used by Healing Church hunters. It is said that this rifle was employed by Ludwig, the first hunter of the Church. Its long, heavy barrel makes up in range for what it lacks in reload speed.
  • Flamesprayer: A special weapon used by certain members of the Healing Church. Spits searing flames by using blood-imbued Quicksilver Bullets as a special medium. Not the most efficient weapon by any stretch, but sometimes a sea of flame is just what the doctor ordered.
  • A Call Beyond: Originally intended to be a breach into the Cosmos and let the Choir commune with the Great Ones on their "Star-World", the rite failed and led to the accidental small explosion of a star when used instead. The rite allows one to breach the Cosmos, cause the destruction of a star, and use the energy from its destruction in a weaponized Arcane projectile form.
  • Augur of Ebrietas: A remnant of the eldritch Truth encountered at Byrgenwerth. Use phantasms, the invertebrates known to be augurs of the Great Ones, to partially summon abandoned Ebrietas. The initial encounter marked the start of an inquiry into the cosmos from within the old labyrinth, and led to the establishment of the Choir.
  • Empty Phantasm Shell: An empty invertebrate shell that is said to be a familiar of a Great One. The Healing Church has discovered a great variety of invertebrates, or phantasms, as they are called. Shells with slime still harbour arcane power, and can be rubbed on weapons to imbue them with their strength.
  • Madman Set: Most tomb prospectors, members of the Healing Church chose to explore the old labyrinth, are unable to withstand the weight of the old knowledge, and go mad. This attire is worn by those lost souls. This set boasts high Thrust damage resistance.

Intelligence: Gifted (Holds extensive knowledge of the arcane and Great Ones given his use of A Call Beyond and the Auger of Ebrietas)

Weaknesses: Blood damage

Notable Attacks/Techniques:

  • Rally: A core mechanic of a hunter's fighting style, the ability to heal for part or all of the damage taken from a recent attack by retaliating with their own attacks. This allows a hunter to use an offense-centric, high risk/high reward style of combat, giving them the ability to sustain themselves by constantly attacking and counterattacking the enemy. However, this ability requires the opponent to be biological in some manner, as it is done in part by 'bathing in the opponent's blood' and does not work on inanimate targets or spirits[4].
  • Visceral Attack: A unique and brutal technique in a hunter's fighting style, using a firearm or projectile Hunter Tool such as the Blackskye Eye or Augur of Ebrietas to parry an incoming attack, The Hunter briefly staggers the opponent, leaving them open for The Hunter to drive their hand into the opponent's torso or skull and tear out large chunks of their organs, dealing a large amount of damage. This can also be used on an unsuspecting enemy, hitting them with a fully charged heavy melee attack to stagger them in the same way[6].
  • Blood Bullets: A technique used by hunters as a means of conserving or creating ammunition for firearms in place of Quicksilver Bullets. Using their own blood as a substitute, a hunter is able to create a seemingly limitless number of Blood Bullets so long as their vitality holds out[2].

  5. Blue Elixir - Dubious liquid medicine used in strange experiments conducted by high ministers of the Healing Church. A type of anesthetic that numbs the brain. Hunters, able to retain consciousness by force of will, make use of a secondary effect of the medicine, which dilutes their presence while standing still.
