The Valkyries are major antagonists in the Norse Era of the God of War franchise. In God of War (2018), they act as optional bosses for Kratos to battle and free from Odin's curse.
History[]
Freya, before her exile from Asgard, was the Valkyrie Queen. After her exile, this role was taken by Sigrún, and later by Gná.
God of War (2018)[]
After receiving the special chisel, Kratos can open Odin's vaults to challenge and fight Valkyries. Defeating all eight of them allows Kratos to battle Sigrún. Defeating her reveals lore about the past of the Valkyries.
God of War Ragnarök[]
Freya momentarily dons her old Valkyrie outfit, revealing her Valkyrie name to be Vanadis, and briefly battles Kratos before joining his side. Later, after stabbing Surtr with the Blades of Chaos, two Valkyries named Hrist and Mist show up to kill Kratos and Atreus. They are both overpowered by the protagonists. In the epilogue of the game, Kratos can challenge Gná.
