Python is a minor antagonist in the manga/anime series Record of Ragnarok.

He is the main antagonist of Apollo's Flashback during the Ninth Round of the Ragnarok Tournament.

Python is a Demon belonging to the Greek Pantheon who, after being expelled from Valhalla due to his ugly appearance, let off steam by scaring the Humans on Earth until he was stopped and calmed by Apollo.

Appearance[]

Python is a huge humanoid snake. Because of his monstrous appearance, Python was discriminated against by both Gods and Humans and whenever he went to terrorize human settlements, Python always wore a large cloak with spikes down his back and a mask that obscured his face, leaving visible just the eyes and mouth.

Personality[]

Due to the fact that everyone around him would always shun him for his appearance, Python became very bitter and often attacked Humans, as well as defeating all the Gods that were sent against him. Despite maintaining a menacing attitude, Python does not actually harm any Human beings and takes down the Gods' soldiers without killing them.

Python feels contempt towards himself due to the fact that everyone always treats him badly because of his appearance, and of all the Gods, Python hated Apollo the most, since it seemed that Apollo was the his exact opposite: handsome, admired and always reliable. Thus, when Apollo descended to Earth to stop his rampage, even though he continued to be defeated with a single punch, Python continued to relentlessly challenge Apollo every day.

After Apollo reveals to him that he was not always a great God and that he was only recognized as such through effort, Python's attitude towards Apollo softens, to the point of even crying over his past actions, not wanting to watch his match in the Ragnarok Tournament for fear that he might lose it and take him to the infirmary immediately after his victory.

Biography[]

Python is a Demon belonging to the Greek Pantheon. Because of his ugly appearance, Python is mocked by the Gods and expelled from Valhalla, thus being sent to Earth. Here, even the Humans begin to discriminate against him and disgust him because of his ugly appearance, which pushes Python to disguise himself and begin to scare and terrorize the Humans. Ares sends his army to stop Python, but he manages to defeat them all easily and continues his campaign, until Apollo, wanting to exceed Ares' expectations, decides to go to Python to stop him. He considers himself satisfied with being able to defeat one of the Twelve Gods of Olympus and attacks him for this, but Apollo manages to defeat him with a single punch and Python, not accepting defeat, declares that he will never lose to someone like him, which pushes Apollo to accept the challenge to continue fighting.

However, in the following days Apollo always defeats Python with a single blow, until the latter declares that he will never lose against a God who has received everything from life, while he is disgusted by everyone only for his appearance, but Apollo tells him he replies that for him he is beautiful and appearances do not matter, as well as the fact that in reality the two of them are the same, given that Apollo was also considered a mediocre God and earned his fame with efforts, in addition to the fact that he must first learn to love yourself before making yourself loved by others. Python then realizes his mistakes and separates from Apollo, making him promise that one day they would fight again. Python remains in Delphi and, with the help of local Humans, founds the Temple of Apollo bearing on it the phrase "Know Thyself", a phrase which during the course of the time is misinterpreted by the inhabitants of Delphi who are convinced that that phrase means that Apollo despises Humans and believes they should submit to him.

Millennia later, during the Ragnarok Tournament, Python remains in the corridors of the Arena during the Ninth Round of the competition, which sees Apollo face Leonidas, for fear that Apollo might lose. Then when Apollo returns to the corridors of the arena victorious but tired and wounded, Python explodes with joy and takes Apollo to the infirmary.

Powers and Abilities[]

Demonic Strength, Agility and Resistance: Being a Demon, Python has strength, agility and resistance superior to those of ordinary Humans. Python is strong enough to easily defeat the entire army of Ares, but not strong enough to withstand a punch from Apollo, who beat Python several times using only one punch. Python fights mostly using his physical strength. Furthermore, being a Demon, Python cannot age and does not feel the passage of time.

Trivia[]

  • During the introduction of Apollo in the Ninth Round of the Ragnarok Tournament, Heimdall stated that Apollo killed Python with his bow and arrows, which ultimately proved to be a misinterpretations of true events.
