Death to the scoundrel who sows discord between East and West. I shall be Justice's Sword.
~ Pance's threatening letter sent to the Opera House
Justice... Justice...
~ Pance Karmer muttering to himself as he prepares to shoot Jonas Wellman

Pance Karmer is a minor antagonist in the Spy × Family series, being the main antagonist of Mission 63 from the WISE Arc. He's a 52-year-old Ostanian war veteran who became deeply obssessed with "punishing the corrupt", dubbing himself "Justice's Sword". Upon hearing all the allegations brought upon the Ostanian opera singer Jonas Wellman, Pance decided to take upon himself to assassinate him for what he deemed as "sowing discord" between the East and the West.

Appearance[]

Pance Karmer is a middle-aged man of average height. He has blank eyes and is dressed in a standard security suit. He wears a white shirt with two pockets and black trousers and a belt underneath. On his head, he wears a hat with the letter P, which probably stands for "Police".

Personality[]

Based on Pance Karmer's behavior and actions, we can classify him into the ESTJ (extrovert, sensing, thinking, judging) personality type. He is a very organized and efficient individual and is focused on achieving his goals. He is a natural leader, takes responsibility in difficult situations and makes decisions without hesitation. Pance Karmer generally prioritizes traditional values and respects rules and hierarchies. However, they can be overly critical and inflexible in their thinking, which can lead to conflicts with others. It seems that the ESTJ personality type is evident in Pance Karmer's behavior and actions.

Biography[]

Background[]

Pance was an Ostanian soldier who fought in the war years before the events of the series. The experience left him with an inflated pride for having fought for his country's peace, becoming a vigilante who saw himself as worthy of acting as judge, jury and executioner. According to his criminal record, Pance bounced from job to job after the war, and also had a history of arrests for assault.

Spy × Family[]

After several allegations came out against the Ostanian opera singer, Jonas Wellman, Karmer began planning on assassinating him for what he saw as "sowing discord" between the two countries. He sent an untraceable threatening letter to the opera house, detailing his plans to murder Jonas, which was then intercepted by WISE. Fearing the scandal might lead to further damage to Westalis and Ostania's relations, the organization plans to do everything they can to protect Wellman's wellbeing.

A few days later, after most of the allegations surrounding Jonas Wellman were proven false, Sylvia Sherwood still remains vigilant on the situation, as the Opera House was being surrounded by several anti-Wellman protesters. While watching the security footage, Sylvia notices Pance Karmer among the guards for Phallanx Security, which were designed to escort Wellman to safety. Taking notice of his lack of a baton, Sylvia contacts their nearest informant, known as Kebab and goes all the way there.

While Jonas is exiting the backdoor of his office with his bodyguards, Pance prepares to shoot him with a silenced pistol from behind a nearby tree. As the WISE agents arrive at the scene, Kebab stalls the singer as Pance approaches and prepares to snipe him. In a quick movement, Sylvia runs up to Pance and whips his hand with her belt, causing him to drop the gun. Thinking that she's a police officer, Pance pulls out a pocket knife and tries to attack her, but not before Sylvia swiftly hits him in the chin with her belt, breaking his jaw and knocking him out. Sylvia and the other WISE agents then drag Pance's unconscious body away while Kebab keeps distracting Jonas Wellman. After this, Pance gets arrested by the Ostanian authorities and Jonas Wellman embarks safely on his tour in Westalis.

Despite Pance's defeat, it's later on revealed that some of the allegations made against Wellman were actually true, as one of his mistresses was actually the daughter of a crime lord.
