Len Windass is a fictional character and supporting antagonist of the ITV British soap opera Coronation Street, appearing from November 2008 to August 2009.

A member of the Windass Family, he is the brother of Eddie Windass and the uncle of Gary Windass.

He was played by Conor Ryan.

Biography[]

Len Windass is the brother of Eddie Windass and the uncle of Eddie's son Gary Windass. The Windass family became involved in a feud with the Platt family in November 2008 when the Windass clan refused to pay for a kitchen fitted by Joe McIntyre, who was dating Gail Platt. It was then Gail's son David and his friend Graeme broke into the Windass house and ripped out the kitchen. Len and Gary retaliated by breaking into Gail's house and destroying her kitchen.

The following month the family were rehoused next to the Platts, much to both parties horror. Despite this Gail called a truce with Gary's mother Anna, although both Gary and David continued to clash with each other. After Gary beat David up badly and was charged, Len tried to intimidate David's girlfriend Tina McIntyre to tell the court that David threw the first punch (which he did). When she refused he propositioned to her father Joe that he will offer him a contract to fit kitchens in a housing development on the condition he gets Tina to tell the truth. Len's playing on Joe's current difficulties worked and Joe convinced Tina to tell the truth, which got Gary acquitted. True to his word he got Joe the contract, although Joe was unable to perform the task ahead due to suffering a back injury, much to the frustration of Len as Joe was costing him time and money.

When Gary broke into the house of David's gran Audrey Roberts (which was a set up by David to send him down) herself, Len offered to lie to the police and claim Gary spent the night with him. But Anna and Eddie were not happy as Len was again trying to get Gary off the hook and continue to be a bad influence on him. They sent Len packing from the Windass household, and Gary decided to finally face up to his responsibilities and served two months in prison.

Growing tired of Joe's unreliability, Len dropped him from the development during the summer of 2009. Shortly afterwards Len paid one final visit to the street to help deliver Eddie's cake to the wedding venue of Steve and Becky McDonald.

Later in the year it is revealed that Len's company sold off Joe's debts to ruthless loan shark Rick Neelan, which led to Rick carrying out a harassment campaign against him for months before Joe accidentally killed himself in a failed attempt to fake his death.

Len left the United Kingdom sometime in 2010 to take up a job in Germany, with his brother Eddie joining him the following year.
