Hermione Lodge is a major character in Riverdale. She is the mother of Veronica Lodge and the ex-wife and former partner of Hiram Lodge.
She is portrayed by Marisol Nichols (who also played Desert Wolf) as an adult, and by Camila Mendes as a teenager.
History[]
Early life[]
Hermione Lodge in 1988
Hermione was born in the Northside of the small town of Riverdale sometime in 1974 or 1975 to a family of Catholic, working-class, dirt poor latinos which included her mother Apollonia Gomez and an unnamed and unseen father who most probably died before she became a teenager which caused even more poverty for the family. Her mother then became a maid at the Five Seasons Hotel to support for the family whilst Hermione went to Riverdale High as a teenager where she became friends with Fred Andrews, Alice Smith, FP Jones and Sierra Samuels and regularly hanged out with them at Pop's Chocke-Litte Shoppe. She also rejected the constant advances of Jaime Luna who tried to date her at every turn but was turned down by Hermione because his family was poor as well.
In 1988, after Jaime got a new jacket and clothing, Hermione had a crush on and started to date him, however, after their date at Pop's was interruped by police arresting Jaime for money laundering, Hermione told Jaime's boss and mob boss Vittorio "Vito" Alto about his arrest which caused Jaime to get released from his holding cell. The next day, Jaime came back and told Hermione that they should continue on their date, after Hermione refused, Jaime got out keys for his new car which impressed Hermione so much that they completed their date at Pop's after which Jaime told Hermione that he is going to change his name to Hiram Lott with Hermione then telling him to change the surname to Lodge which he agreed with. Hermione was there for Jaime/Hiram's father Javier's funeral and consoled him whilst she also told off and insulted Alice and Penelope Blossom for saying mean comments about Hiram/Jaime, his job and his family.
Chapter Thirty-Nine: The Midnight Club[]
Hermione as a teenager in 1991-1992
In her Junior Year of High School in 1991-1992, Hermione was hanging out in the girls' bathroom with Sierra until she saw a nervous Alice in a stall and found out that she was pregnant with FP's baby. Before their conversation could continue on, Penelope the hall monitor interrupted them and threatened to tell them off to the teachers for wasting time in a bathroom whilst she also asked for hall passes from the 3 of them which Hermione gave however Alice insulted Penelope which caused the 2 to get into a physical fight and for all 4 of them to land in Saturday detention alongside Fred and FP by Principal Featherhead.
Whilst in detention, the 6 played Secrets & Sins in which Hermione explained her poverty situation and how her hard-working mother sacrifices herself every day working at the Five Seasons just so that Hermione could get a proper life and education whilst she also talks about how her mother disagrees with Hermione's relationship with Hiram and how he is just trying to do good for her. When Penelope explains her secret about how the Blossoms are bad people who bought her as a child bride for their son Clifford, Hermione tells Penelope to run away, however after Penelope insults her background, the 2 get into a brief physical brawl which ends with Principal Featherhead giving all 6 of them 6 more weeks of Saturday detention.
During their time in detention, Hermione, Penelope, Fred, Alice, FP and Sierra slowly became best friends. One day, they found a board game in Miss Krabappel's drawer called Gryphons & Gargoyles (G&G) which they started to play. Hermione became the sorceresss character and was tasked by Penelope alongside Fred, FP and Alice to get a Blossom gemstone hidden in the school. She went with FP and after finding the stone, rejected his advances and told him about Alice's pregnancy with his child which caused FP to get into a serious relationship with the latter (Alice) whilst Hermione got into a relationship with Fred. Soon after their Saturday detention ended, the 6 sneaked into school at midnight for weeks and played G&G then, starting to also roleplay as their characters in real-life and calling themselves "The Midnight Club".
One night whilst they were roleplaying, the 6 of them ran into 4 other Riverdale High students roleplaying as G&G characters: Tom Keller, Darryl Doiley, Hiram and Marty Mantle who all then decided to team up and play the game together as one seperate club. A few weeks later, they each got mysterious messages in their lockers telling them to come to Riverdale High at nighttime roleplaying as the G&G characters and ascend to the next level of the game by drinking from the chalices and goblets that will be laid out for them.
At nighttime, Hermione arrived at Riverdale High with the other 9 members and they all drank from the chalices and goblets to ascend. After that, Hermione, Fred, FP, Alice and Sierra showed Penelope, Tom, Darryl, Hiram and Marty a concert of the rock band The Fred Heads before all 9 of them (excluding Alice), had some Fizzle Rocks from Hiram causing their personalities to change completely and be more crazy and chaotic with the drugged Hermione making out with Marty. Unbeknownst to all of them, Principal Featherhead was outside the classroom they were partying in and was mysteriously murdered outside by a mysterious figure called the "Gargoyle King" who stuffed his dead body inside the school closet.
The next day, Hermione found out about Fred's father Artie's death and attended his funeral. Later on, she ran into Alice at Riverdale High and the 2 alongside Fred, Penelope, FP and Sierra attended Artie's funeral procession at Pop's. The next day, all of them (including Hiram, Marty, Darryl, Tom and the whole of the school) saw Principal Featherhead's dead body fall down from the closet and reveal itself. Later on, Hermione and the other 8 members of the club where confronted by Alice who suspected one them of killing Featherhead whilst drugged however they responded by telling her that she might have killed Featherhead herself. Realizing soon enough that if they continued on playing the game, more people will die, Hermione and the others made a pact with each other to never play G&G again which also broke up the Midnight Club and caused them all to get rid of the game.
After that, Hermione and the other former members stopped talking to each other and slowly became more estranged. She soon broke up with Fred and started to date Hiram again, getting expensive gifts from him and abandoning her old personality for a newer, confident and richer one.
Preceding Riverdale[]
After graduating from high school, Hermione married Hiram and the 2 soon had a daughter named Veronica. They later on moved from Riverdale to New York where Hiram became a big crime lord in the Underworld Kansas City Mafia. Hermione became a rich socialite because of his wealth however in 2017, Hiram's criminal operations were found out and he was arrested which caused Hermione to move Veronica to Riverdale and live in the only place she owned: a hotel named the Pembrooke which also had their butler Smithers.
Season 1[]
Throughout the season, she works for Hiram Lodge as he is behind bars.
Season 2[]
In "Chapter Twenty-Six: The Tell-Tale Heart", it is revealed that Hermione is actually the "Boss" and was the one who hired the fake FBI agent Adams.
Season 3[]
She hired Monetta and FP Jones to kill Hiram which failed. She turned killer as she killed monetta and plotted to frame FP for the crime but her plan was foiled by Jughead.
Season 4[]
She got back together with Hiram after the divorce. She paid respects to Fred Jones after he died in a hit and run. She was stripped off mayor by Hiram and he became mayor. She supported Veronica and her friends when they fought to keep the prom open and fire Mr honey. She also was shocked to find out that Hiram has a secret older daughter from one of his mistress that he cheated with behind Hermonie.
Season 5[]
She divorces Hiram after celebrating Veronica’s graduation and announced that she’s returning to New York. 7 years later in 2027, she is an actress and advices Veronica to make her husband happy.
Personality[]
Initially, Hermione is kind to her daughter. However, as the season grows on, she reveals a crueler and more villainous personality. In the second season, she is revealed to have been even more deceitful, as she is the true boss. As of season 4-5, her villionous behaviour began to tone down in which she would transition into anti-hero or even a protagonist.
Despite her true colored nature being revealed, However, she (along with Hiram) does deeply care about her daughter Veronica as she does protect her from Small Fry while getting attacked.
Trivia[]
- Unlike other adaption versions, this version is shown to be villainous.
- She started out as neutral in season 1, however she was a antagonist in season 2 and anti-heroine in season 3 before becoming a supporting anti-hero/protagonist in season 4-5.
- As of season 5, she is no longer involved in crime.
