Arthur Adams, also known as Agent Adams, is a supporting antagonist in the second season of the CW series Riverdale. He is a fake FBI agent who actually works as a capo for Hermione Lodge and who was tasked to pressure Archie Andrews in order to test his loyalty.
He was portrayed by John Behlmann.
Biography[]
Adams first appears when he meets Archie Andrews and introduces himself as an FBI agent. The two take a walk in the park and Adams explains that he is in charge of investigating the criminal activities of Hiram Lodge and that he needs Archie to help him bring down the crime lord. So Archie makes a deal with the agent; if he agrees to help him, his father Fred who is associated with Lodge will not be involved in their investigation.
After Archie visits and beats up Nick St. Clair, Agent Adams advises him to be careful and not to be impulsive during investigations because it can ruin everything. He adds that he will protect Veronica in addition to Fred. In the following episode, Adams gives papers confirming Fred's immunity to Archie and asks him to get closer to Hiram and gain his trust to better investigate. After that, the agent tries to call Archie several times but the teenager ignores the calls.
The more the days pass, the more Archie becomes uncomfortable and less willing to help agent Adams. For example, he refuses to wear a wire while playing poker with Hiram and a crime family. In the evening, Adams and Archie discuss the murder of Paul Boucher alias Poppa Poutine. Realizing that Hiram couldn't kill him himself, Adams assumes a capo must have done it for him.
The two go to the park a second time and Adams hands over a silver letter that is three weeks of working together from Archie. He also hopes this will convince Archie to continue the investigation and discuss Poppa Poutine's murder with Hiram. During the night, Agent Adams visits Fred and Archie tells him to stay away from his father. The agent replies that this wouldn't have happened if Archie hadn't lied to him and Adams assumes the teenager is protecting Hiram. He also implies that he doesn't care if Archie and his father perish if it's about destroying Hiram once and for all. Later, Hermione has a conversation with Archie and reveals to him that Adams is just an associate and capo she works with. She explains that she hired this man to test Archie's loyalty to the Lodges.
Episodes later, Adams, hidden by a black hood, assaults Andre, the Lodge's butler at the Pembrooke. He is stopped by Archie who chases and unmasks him, though Adams does not break free and threatens Archie to tell Hiram to take the deal from Lenny Kowalski and Carl Martin. After which, Adams runs away. The next day, Hiram and Hermione are upset and frustrated by Adams' betrayal and it is unknown what happened to Adams afterward.
