Ginka

Ginka is the secondary antagonist of the Blake's 7 episode "Children of Auron".

He was portrayed by Ric Young, who also played Rao Ran in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Biography[]

Ginka was a Terran Federation officer serving aboard Servalan's command ship. He behaved in a contemptuous and insolent manner towards the ship's captain, Deral, and tended to take his orders directly from Servalan. He believed Deral had been made captain ahead of him because of his connections.

Under Servalan's orders, Ginka disabled a shuttle from Auron, then pretended to rescue the shuttle while in fact infecting the pilot with a pathogen that killed him. His ship returned to Auron, with the pathogen starting an epidemic that threatened to wipe out the planet's population. This allowed the Federation ship to land on Auron under the guise of providing medical aid. Ginka cured Clinician Franton, who was vital to Servalan's plans to produce clone babies of herself, but Servalan told him not to bother treating anyone else.

After the Liberator also arrived to help, Ginka led an assault on the Auron central control, capturing Avon, Tarrant and Cally, while the Auron leadership were taken out and shot. Servalan used the trio's bracelets to contact Vila on the Liberator. She offered to send up an emissary and Ginka volunteered to go and take the ship for her but Servalan instead had Deral teleport aboard, only for him to immediately be taken prisoner, since no-one had realised Vila was backed up by Dayna and the Auron Patar.

When Avon's group escaped and took refuge in the replication plant, Servalan ordered Ginka to lead a ground assault. Ginka was aware that Servalan didn't want the plant destroyed because her own clone babies were being produced there, so convinced her that Deral had replaced her material with his own. As he had hoped, Servalan instead ordered him to destroy the facility with a bombardment. The attack failed to kill any of the Liberator crew, who had already teleported to safety. However, Servalan telepathically sensed the deaths of her children and realised Ginka had lied to her. She killed him with the push of a button, possibly activating an implant.
