~ Cary to Billy.
Cary Rossington is a minor antagonist from Stephen King's body-horror novel, Thinner. Cary served as the Judge that presided over Billy Halleck's cases. After helping Billy get away with the death of Suzan Lempke, he and his associates were cursed by her father, Tadzu Lempke.
At the beginning of the film, Cary demonstrated to be a hateful individual, referring to the visiting Gypsies as filthy and thieves. He continued to demonstrate this intolerance when he helped Billy get away with the murder of a member of the group, Suzan Lempke, by giving Billy an easy trial. Other than this, Cary did not display any other defining traits, other than slight vanity when he killed himself due to his cursed appearance.
Biography[]
Cary is first seen meeting with Billy outside of Billy's law firm, Billy thanking him for assisting him in research for his earlier case. Cary expressed his distaste for the Gypsies preforming across the street, telling Billy he wished that they would leave town as Chief Hopley came over and joined them. The three continued this discussion until Cary and walked away with Duncan.
Cary was seen again in court, presiding over Billy's hearing involving the death of Suzan Lempke. He and Duncan worked to aquite Billy of all charges, ruling Suzan's death an accident. Shortly after this hearing, Cary was cursed offscreen by Tadzu.
Sometime later, Cary and his wife met with Billy for a game of golf, where a man mocked him for letting Billy get off easy. Later on at a country club in the men's locker room, having a doctor named Mike come over to check out a scab-like area covering his chest. Mike insisted that it was most likely psoriasis. Shortly after Cary met with Billy in the showers, describing his bizarre encounter with Tadzu after the trial as well as the growth on his skin.
Cary is never physically seen again after this, but Billy was able to see what happened to him during a dream. Cary had become fully covered in scales, Tadzu's curse intending to turn him into a lizard. After driving up to find special doctors in search of a cure, Cary ended up taking his own life by running his car into an oil tanker. In Billy's dream, Cary helped Billy escape from Gina Lempke by getting him into his car, Billy waking up before they made impact with the truck.
