Crucabena, also known by her codename The Knave and as Mother, is a minor antagonist in the 2020 action role-playing fantasy video game Genshin Impact. She is also the overarching antagonist of Arlecchino’s Story Quest, Ignis Purgatorius Chapter.
Crucabena was a member of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers and Director of the House of the Hearth. Known as "Mother," she raised the children of the House with an iron fist until she was killed and succeeded by one of her orphans: Peruere.
Crucabena is voiced by Chanfei Li in Chinese, by Jennifer Sun Bell in English, by Bak Sin-hee in Korean, and by Yuko Nagashima in Japanese.
Personality[]
From her little screen time, Crucabena is revealed to be a highly darwinistic psychopath who coldly manipulating the children of House of Hearth to value their duty above their lives, and gaslighting them to kill each other.
An arrogant individual, she looked down on Arlechhino, gloating about how she won’t beat her. While seeming playing as a caring mother in the surface who would told stories to the orphans, Crucabena is in truth a coldhearted control freak who viewed the orphans as nothing but tools.
History[]
The previous holder of the title The Knave of the Fatui, Crucabena rises the chidlren of the House of Hearth, while seemingly playing as a caring mother, Crucabena would tells stories to the children to manipulate them as emotionless tools of Fatui that didn’t value their own lives. Examples of such victims are Peruere and Clervie. Eventually, she would force her children to fight and kill each other in battle, with only the strongest left alive. In the end, Peruere was forced to kill Clervie. In anger, Peruere traced down Crucabena to avenge her fallen friend. While with the power of her Cryo Delusion Crucabena was initially able to have the upper hand over Peruere, eventually Peruere was able to overpower the Knave, who kicked her to the glass ceiling of the building they were in, and Peruere eventually summoned flames to incinerate Crucabena. Later, Peruere would be arrested by the Fatui, but the leader of the Fatui, Tsaritsa of Snezhnaya ended up pardoning Peruere’s crime and gave her the title of The Knave, thus effectively taking over Crucabena’s position.
