- "Our people have seen that the Sith are vulnerable whenever we stand united. This war will be dark and brutal and vicious. But we will stand against that darkness together. And together, we will win."
- ―Ardinondu Dipolus Daeruun
The Third Galactic War[14] was a conflict which broke out across the galaxy between the reconstituted Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, Jedi Order, and the Eternal Alliance.
Origins[]
In the heat of the second Galactic War, both the Empire and Republic were unexpectedly attacked by the mysterious Eternal Empire from Wild Space. A temporary fragile alliance between the two superpowers was subsequently created, represented by Dark Council member Darth Marr and the Republic war hero who would become known as the Outlander. During a search for the former Sith Emperor in Wild Space, Darth Marr's flagship was suddenly ambushed by the Eternal Empire's Eternal Fleet, and both Marr and the Outlander were captured and taken to the capital planet of Zakuul, where Marr was killed by the Emperor and the Outlander was imprisoned in carbonite.[15]
After assassinating his father, the new Emperor Arcann launched a full scale invasion of the galaxy, conquering the Empire and the Republic and turning them into puppet states to Zakuul.[16] Many years after the conquest, the Eternal Empire was overthrown by the Outlander—who was then known as the Alliance Commander—taking Zakuul in the name of the new Eternal Alliance.[17] After a pyrrhic victory in wiping out the last of the Eternal Empire's followers, the Commander decided to work more closely with the Galactic Republic.[4]
History[]
Jedi Under Siege[]
In 3628 BBY,[11] the Sith Empire discovered that Jedi Master Gnost-Dural, long thought dead, was hiding in a secret Jedi Colony on Ossus. Sith Emperor Darth Vowrawn promptly ordered an invasion of the planet, under the command of Darth Malgus and Dark Council member Darth Malora, starting the third Galactic War.[12]
Dantooine Incursion[]
The Sith Empire targeted the planet Dantooine. Unable to defeat its defenses, the Sith worked with the Nova Blades pirates. Imperial Colonel Lenora Trazen led operations to destabilize the planet.[18] The Nova Blades' surprise assault caught the Republic off-guard, but as the pirates began plundering, they turned on the Empire.[19] Eventually, the Commander of the Eternal Alliance arrived to aid the Republic in defending the planet.[20]
Conflict on Onderon[]
In 3627 BBY,[21] King Regalun Petryph sought to exploit Onderon resources for personal gain, clashing with Senator Deja Nebet and her council of nobles. Petryph unknowingly fell under the influence of Darth Savik. Savik, aiming to seize control of Onderon's resources, manipulated Petryph into starting a civil war by convincing him that Nebet and the nobles were plotting against him.[22]
Fuel crisis[]
A Republic fleet led by Vice Admiral Dol Narlock, docked on Mek-Sha for refueling en route to Corellia. Meanwhile, Darth Shaar planned to destroy the fleet to weaken Corellia's defense. Mek-Sha's independence, built on a fuel failsafe by the station's queen, Huttbreaker, became central to the Empire's plan to destroy the Republic ships. The decision to allow the Republic to refuel hinged on a vote by Mek-Sha's crews, with Republic sympathizer Junker Jott and Huttbreaker supporting the fleet.[23]
Meridian Complex assault[]
- "Let the battle begin."
- ―Darth Malgus
Not long after the mission on Mek-Sha, the Sith Empire, led by Darth Malgus, launched a multi-fleet assault on the Republic, with one fleet attacking the Republic fleet and another bombarding the planet's surface to distract them. Meanwhile, Malgus led a ground assault on the Meridian Complex. The Alliance Commander, Jedi Knight Tau Idair and Padawan Arn Peralun, pursued Malgus, confronting him and restoring the complex's defenses. Malgus retreated and Krovos' fleet was forced to withdraw.[24]
Uncovering secrets[]
- "I have done something no other Sith could achieve—I've broken my chains. No one can stop me. Not the Republic, not the Empire…, not you."
- ―Darth Malgus, to Aryn Leneer
In 3626 BBY,[26] Darth Malgus, tormented by visions of his defeat and capture by Emperor Vowrawn and Darth Krovos, Malgus sought a way to remove the effects plaguing him. Upon arriving at the Jedi Enclave ruins on Dantooine, Malgus ventured deeper into the ruins where he discovered an ancient relic belonging to Darth Nul, an ancient female Sith Lord whose records had been erased from history. The Jedi were soon dispatched to the Enclave to investigate the ruins.[25]
Threats from within[]
- "I have seen a vision of the future. A galaxy in flames. What I have begun will not end with me. This is only the beginning."
- ―Darth Malgus
Around 3625 BBY,[28] The Sith Empire invaded the ocean planet Manaan to seize its mass-produced and valuable kolto to turn the tide of the war in their favor while fending off Republic forces supporting the Selkath to thwart the Empire's plans.[29] Meanwhile, the rogue Sith Lord Darth Malgus traveled to the Temple of Nul on the planet Elom. At the same time, the Jedi had discovered the mystery surrounding Darth Nul and uncovered a connection between the planet Elom and Nul, believing it to be a place where Malgus sought answers. Jedi Master Denolm Orr then assembled a team, including his Padawan Sa'har Kateen, to investigate Elom.[30]
During the mission, Denolm Orr's team encountered Imperial forces on Elom, leaving only him and his Padawan alive to reach the temple.[30] They discovered a mysterious machine powered by a holocron. Orr and Kateen soon found themselves facing a Sith warrior. As they confronted the Sith warrior, the Sith was unexpectedly killed by Malgus who had just entered the temple. While Malgus and Orr dueled, Sa'har interacted with the machine, leading her to a vision of her past. After Orr destroyed the machine, Sa'har retrieved the holocron but refused to hand it over, leading to a confrontation between them. Malgus took an opportunity, killing Orr and leaving Sa'har buried under rubble while taking the holocron.[31]
Malgus later encountered the Alliance Commander, Tau Idair, and Lana Beniko who had just arrived on Elom and was defeated. He was later imprisoned aboard Carrick Station. Meanwhile, Sa'har survived the temple's destruction, found the holocron hidden by Malgus and left the planet.[27]
Heta Kol's plans[]
During the Mandalorian civil war between Mandalore the Avenger's faction and the Hidden Chain splinter faction, Field Marshal Heta Kol of the Hidden Chain sought to use Darth Nul's holocron to create an army of Force-sensitives.[32] Around 3623 BBY,[33] The Alliance Commander and Sa'har Kateen infiltrated their flagship to stop Heta Kol. After defeating Sa'har's brother, Ri'kan, and sabotaging the Holocron Machine, the Commander attempted to help the siblings but the path was blocked by falling debris forcing the Commander to escape the flagship with the holocron.[34] Meanwhile, Shae Vizla and her mercenaries broke Malgus out of Carrick Station, fearing that Heta Kol's war would provoke both the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire. To prevent the destruction of all Mandalorians, Vizla aligned herself with Malgus, the only one capable of stopping Heta Kol.[35]
Malgus' plans[]
The Eternal Alliance set out to track down Darth Malgus after his release and stop his dangerous plans while searching for answers about Darth Nul's holocron and uncover the true intentions of the Hidden Chain.[36]
