The Sundari Royal Palace was a palace located in the city of Sundari on Mandalore. It was the home of Duchess Satine Kryze.

Following the onset of the Clone Wars, the palace became the center of power on Mandalore. It was here that Duchess Satine declared the planet neutral. Obi-Wan Kenobi originally visited Satine here when he was on a mission to investigate the Death Watch on Concordia.

Around 20 BBY, the palace played a pivotal role in the Shadow Collective's Takeover of Mandalore. It was from the royal balcony that the Death Watch made their first appearance, promising to do what the Duchess could not—stop the attacking gangsters. After Death Watch staged their victory, the Duchess was arrested in the throne room and the Shadow Collective leaders—Ziton Moj, Lom Pyke, and Savage Opress—were brought before the Mandalorians to turn the people in favor of the Death Watch so that Pre Vizsla could be declared Prime Minister. Once Vizsla had a tight grip on the planet, he betrayed Darth Maul, subduing him and presenting him to the people as an object lesson of the danger of being weak. Maul returned, however, after escaping from prison, and challenge Vizsla to a duel in the throne room. Ultimately, Maul killed Vizsla, and sparked a firefight between those in the Death Watch who gave their loyalty to Maul, and those who refused to follow an outsider, led by Bo-Katan Kryze. After Maul reinstated Almec as Prime Minister, he gave his acceptance speech from the royal balcony, promising a bright future as Mandalore returned to its warrior past.^[2]

When Darth Maul captured Obi-Wan Kenobi and Satine Kryze as Kenobi was trying to rescue Kryze, he had them brought to the throne room, where he executed the Duchess. Sometime later during the battle that engulfed Sundari, the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Sidious arrived on Mandalore and entered the throne room, killing two soldiers before he confronted the two brothers. After exchanging brief words with Maul, he ignited two lightsabers and challenged them to a duel. Sidious led the duel away from the throne room, onto the balcony, and down to the plaza below. He was strained only once, but gained the upper hand after impaling Opress in the chest and subjecting Maul to Force lightning.^[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Sundari palace first appeared in Star Wars canon in the twelfth episode in Season Two of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, entitled "The Mandalore Plot." In went on to appear several times throughout the television series, including "Duchess of Mandalore," "Corruption," "The Academy," "A Friend in Need," "Shades of Reason," and "The Lawless."

The palace originally went unnamed in the television series and related materials, but was assigned the conjectural appellation of "Sundari Royal Palace" on Wookieepedia for the purpose of identifying the subject's article. The site's fan-made designation later appeared in Jason Fry's young reader novel The Clone Wars: Darth Maul: Shadow Conspiracy as the official name of the palace, rendering the name "Sundari Royal Palace" as official canon.
