Star Wars: Galactic Defense was a tower defense mobile game developed by DeNA Santiago for Android and iOS. The game took place in a wide variety of eras, spanning both the prequel and the original trilogies.[1]
The game was announced on September 24, 2014, and released on October 30, 2014. In mid-February 2016, DeNA announced the release of 10 new missions on the planet Coruscant, along with the eventual shutdown of the game. Continuity[]
Star Wars: Galactic Defense contained numerous Easter eggs referencing Star Wars Legends media. Some vehicles in the game (such as the MLC-3 light tank) were based on Kenner's Mini-Rigs toy line. Another example is Tarfful yelling "hnn-rowr yrroonn nng rarr," a quote which first appeared in the Legends comic Star Wars: Empire's End and meant "long live the New Republic" in Shyriiwook. In the limited-time event "Jedi Hunt," two new playable characters were added to the game—a gray-haired Ben Kenobi, and Darth Maul with cybernetic legs—a reference to the Star Wars: Visionaries comic Old Wounds.
Despite the game not having any official content from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it contains two unintentional nods to Kylo Ren. One is found in the Champion description for Luke Skywalker in his Jedi clothing, which talks of how he plans to "finish what he started" (which is similar to what Ren says in the film's official trailer), referring to early speculation that Luke was actually Ren, which was ultimately disproven. The other one is an in-game glitch that occurs during intense battles involving ranged units firing a huge number of blaster bolts at each other, in which some of the bolts freeze in midair for the rest of the level. This is one of Ren's unique Force abilities.
The game also introduces several never-before-seen units, like the B1 Grapple Droid.
