- "I've heard that the new R3s are far faster in thinking skills and more powerful than the old R2 units."
- ―Ahsoka Tano
The R3-series astromech droid was part of the line of R-series astromech droids[2] manufactured by Industrial Automaton.[1] Thanks to their Intellex V processors,[10] R3 astromechs had faster processing abilities than the more common R2 units.[2] Some R3 series astromechs, such as R3-S1, had transparent domes[10] while others like R3-S6 had an opaque dome.[4] Some R3 units, such as R3-A3, also had conical heads rather than domes.[7]
The Lothal astromech droids manufactured by Lothal Logistics Limited were very loosely modeled after the design of the R3-series.[11]
