- "Because of the Jedi's dangerous position on the front lines, traditional robes weren't always enough to protect members of the Order from the constant barrage of attacks unleashed by the Separatists' droids. To meet this threat, many Jedi incorporated armor—usually modified from standard-issue clone trooper gear—into their ceremonial garb."
- ―Jedi Master Luke Skywalker
The so-called "Jedi Commander armor" was the name given to modified clone trooper armor adopted by Jedi in the Republic Military after the passing of the Jedi Military Integration Act during the Clone Wars.
Description[]
"Jedi Commander armor" was the name assumed by the gear[1] donned by members of the Jedi Order during the Clone Wars once they were formally integrated into the Republic Military via the Jedi Military Integration Act.[4] Using pieces of clone trooper armor[1] that were usually also modified from standard-issue,[3] the Jedi armor consisted of only the most important plates from clone armor, maintaining protection while also avoiding hampering the Jedi's lightsaber forms and movement. The gear also became a reminder of the new common reality the Jedi Order faced during the conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems.[1]
All the same, not all Jedi donned such gear,[5] while another might reduce how much they wore over time.[6] A lightweight variant of the Jedi Commander armor known as the Jedi Reconnaissance Armor was created during the Clone Wars and sold at 4,000 credits,.[7]
