- "The Pijal varactyl, a subspecies of the creature, was imported by the Iltan clan and bred to be more aerodynamic than its counterparts. These creatures are easily identifiable by their brilliant plumage of crimson feathers."
- ―Ardis San Tekka, in her journal
The Iltan clan was a clan on the Inner Rim planet Pijal. Decades before[1] 40 BBY,[3] the clan imported varactyls, a species of ridable creatures, from[1] the planet[4] Utapau to gain an advantage in Pijal's ceremonial Grand Hunt racing event. Over time, the local Pijali bred the varactyls into Pijal varactyls,[1] an aerodynamic subspecies[2] unique to Pijal.[1] By 40 BBY,[3] the lord regent Rael Averross had learned of the Iltan clan's original import.[1]
At some point no earlier than 35 ABY,[5] Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts' Director of Creature Cartography, Ardis San Tekka, mentioned the Iltan clan in her journal within an entry about varactyls.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The Iltan clan was mentioned in Master & Apprentice, a 2019 novel written by Claudia Gray.[1]
