The AS-M12-series droid was a model of bespoke and familiar messenger droid used by Imperial Intelligence services of the Galactic Empire such as the Imperial Security Bureau. Because they used the AS-M12-series and MSE series messenger droids, the Imperial intelligence services rarely used Cybot Galactica's popular M4-series Messenger Droid.[1]

In the current Star Wars canon, the AS-M12-series droid was mentioned in the 2018 Star Wars Roleplaying supplement Cyphers and Masks, which was published by Fantasy Flight Games.[1]
