Rex in the comics
He auditioned for the part of George Washington for the Presidents Day school play, but Ralph was selected instead (partially as a result of Ms. Hoover being blackmailed by Chief Wiggum into giving Ralph the part by placing a boot on her car) and he was demoted to the part of one of Washington's faithful servants, much to his surprise and dismay. He is a proud boy with a dramatic flair.
