Zoë Vaughn

Zoë Vaughn was a main character on Season 2 of the television series Scream.

She was portrayed by Kiana Ledé.

Season 2

She was a Junior at George Washington High School. In Dawn of the Dead, she admits to Noah that she is a fan of his podcast, "The Morgue". In Let The Right One In, Zoë confessed that the reason she wasn't in Lakewood during the Second Lakewood Murders first half in September-October 2015 was due to her mental health and later in the same episode she admitted to being the one that was absent from Season 1 is because her mom and also taking drugs brought on but does not further state why. She would become the second to final victim in January-February 2016 of Piper Shaw's accomplice and her fellow classmate, as well as Emma's faux-boyfriend, Kieran Wilcox. Prior to this, she would then email Audrey's recording about Piper to herself and an unknown person in Let The Right One In. She later confessed that she emailed the tape to in The Orphanage due to being caught by Audrey and Noah. She won the Lady of the Lake of which she was one of the contestants who was on stage a few days prior at the auditorium stage at George Washington High on the side when the body of her fellow classmate Jake Fitzgerald fell and shocked the crowd, mainly her friend and the supposed winner, Brooke Maddox (succeeding her predecessor and frenemy, Nina Patterson from the year prior) contest in Village of the Damned. In The Orphanage, she took Noah's virginity and seemingly hers as well. Ultimately in The Vanishing, she was kidnapped and buried alive at Wren Lake only later to be found dead by Emma, Audrey and Noah.

Quick-witted, armed with both brains and beauty, Zoë is a known overachiever in her academics.

After Emma and Audrey rescued Noah, they hear screaming from under where Noah was buried in. As they removed the casket, they see a box that contains a phone which shows footage of Zoë screaming for help as water fills her casket. When they get to Wren Lake, they discover a cord that is connected to her casket and they begin to pull it out of the lake. When they opened the coffin, they find Zoë dead and they realise that the footage isn’t live but a recording and she has already drowned to death.

Trivia

• Although she was mentioned by Riley in the Pilot episode, she marked her first appearance in the series in the second season premiere, I Know What You Did Last Summer. It's presumed that Zoë left Lakewood for therapy after Nina's murder.
• Zoë’s last name is a reference to actor Vince Vaughn, who within the franchise, in the Stab franchise, specifically in the first Stab played the role of Stu Macher.
  • She would be succeeded more directly by Vince Schneider, a victim in Scream (2022), whose first name is a nod to the actor and whose the actual nephew of the killer (Stu) said actor portrays.
• She was a romantic interest of Noah Foster.
• She was possibly bisexual since she kissed both Audrey and Noah in Happy Birthday to Me.
• Similar to Hallie McDaniel in Scream 2, she is the first African-American female character of the Lakewood Six group, and TV series respectively (excluding Maureen Evans) and excels in her academics involving Psychology.
  • Also similar to Hallie's need for acceptance (her being a Delta Lamda Zeta sorority pledge), Zoë participates in extra circulars, like being a finalist alongside Brooke in the Lady of the Lake pageant.
  • Each female was also one of the last few victims before the reveal of their killers (Hallie was second to last, while Zoë was the third to final).
  • Her character in terms of both academics as well as her battles with her mental health would later be succeeded by both Kym (academics) and Liv Reynolds (mental health).
