After rewatching arguably the best fight in Volume 7 (Ironwood vs. Watts). I noticed a few things about the characters. While both combatants are very straightforward with their attacks, Watts, however, is not a fighter or a very good one. When he engages in combat with Ironwood he does everything one at a time. He shoots at Ironwood, then runs away, then uses his rings to change the gravity, or the hard light shield to block Ironwood's attacks. While James on the other hand is more adept at combat and adapts pretty quickly to the situation.
He uses Due Process in arguably creative ways to fight Watts. He uses lefty to rocket himself up to Arthur and uses righty to attack directly. There are few of times in the fight where the general outsmarts the good doctor such as when Watts creates the wall of fire thinking he's gotten away from his opponent, but Ironwood appears from behind him. Or even earlier when Ironwood uses lefty to propel himself up to Watts, and quickly changes his trajectory in mid-air to dodge one of Watts' bullets.
Another thing is Watts for the majority of the fight was kept out of Ironwood's reach, but after Ironwood football tackles Watts off the platform, Watts become enraged and directly attacks James, but due to Ironwood's combat experience he quickly gains the upper hand and pins Arthur to the support beam.
Edit: Another detail I liked in the fight is we get to see Ironwood holster and unholster his guns. I also liked during the "take my hand" part of the fight, Watts is the one to headbutt Ironwood, despite being much smaller than him.
Edit 2: In conclusion this fight shows us the characters' strengths and weaknesses. It shows us that Ironwood is a lot smarter than most would take him for and shows us how inexperienced Watts is in a combat situation.
