Honestly, all of them are bad except for Elm's which is just alright.
Clover's isn't a weapon, it's a fishing pole. That's not a weapon no matter how you try to slice it. Harriet's and Vine's have no long-ranged capabilities which hamstrings them, and Vine's must not be that useful if he barely even uses it!
And Marrow's is a cross between a weapon that predates the freaking bow and arrow as one of the earliest and most obsolete weapons possible, and a rifle without sights. And I don't seen any Gravity Dust on it, which makes the idea of throwing your weapon very stupid to me.
Edit: I'm an idiot: Vine's weapon technically has long-ranged capabilities since it's a throwing weapon (with gravity Dust! Take notes, Marrow), but I can't imagine it's very useful since he used it in, like, one frame. And his Semblance does also give him a long range, but I don't know how smart it is to solely rely on an ability that is draining your shield.
Kingfisher makes sense for Clover's inspiration but ultimately it's just a fishing rod lmao.
On one hand, Timber is Magnhild on steroids. On the other, it's Magnhild again. Fun but repetitive. Poor Elm.
Fast Knuckles look neat but other than the pressure she puts on a wall it doesn't feel like Harriet does much with it she couldn't otherwise bc they're... just arm/fist braces.
Thorn looks nice I guess, but it might as well not be there with how little Vine uses it at all.
Fetch is a boomerang (+ rifle) with a fun name and some cool use in the few fights Marrow participates in. Easy win.
Kingfisher is unique, but boring. Timber is fine. Fast Knuckles is boring. Thorn is barely even fucking used. Fetch is a god damn boomerang gun. No contest here, it’s the best.
On the one hand, Fetch is so fetch, but on the other hand, it's never gonna be a thing. (Also a blade-gun combo isn't unique, but who cares about that) Kingfisher- plus the horseshoe- come off as Clover being so confident in his Semblance that he uses the most inane weapons he can. Fast Knuckles is pretty good, but needs Harriet's Semblance to make it work. Vine only uses Thorn once because his Semblance is so good, and again, blade-gun combo isn't unique. Timber is one of the only weapons that can double as a jetpack, so it gets my vote easily.
I stand by my decision. Kingfisher is effective.
Oh, We talking about the disappointment that is the armory of the Premier Specialist Team again?
So, first and foremost, FUCK Kingfisher, and shame on the idiot who used it. This is THE military power and leading tech nation of Remnant. And Specialists aren't true Huntsmen, but military personnel. Get a real weapon with nasty firepower you goob! Heck, this is something I'd have suggested as sold to civilians as a tool with secondary emergency militia applications like my machete with an adjustable socket in the handle to make a pole arm out of a freshly hacked off branch in dire circumstances, or my combat knives with heated tips for sterilizing wounds or even making minor patch welds on metal armor.
And again, this is the Atlesian military's most elite field unit. At least get a laser pistol in your offhand! Something that is designed to kill effectively and show that you're from a major military, and that you're not just some background extra who's going to get got by fodder!
Second Worst: Thorn. Giant Shuriken is neat and way above a fishing rod/smacking pole, but we can do better. For starters, make it bimodal and also a gun. And it's easy. Turn this puppy into a pan fed machine gun. Not only does this make it more aggressive, way more RWBY and less reliant on your Semblance for ranged attacks, but it also leans into that dynamic between Vine+Elm and Ren+Nora I thought was going to be a serious thing.
Fetch: Still think it looks too much like Soldier 76's rifle in rifle mode, and it should use the gunfire in boomerang mode, but this feels like proper personal RWBY insanity while also being militant, and this is a new spin on gun blades for the show. Would also recommend using that big size to make the gunfire really feel impactful like he's using high caliber rounds.
Timber is perfect for a riff on Magnihild that also calls to mind RT's old main project of Red VS Blue because seriously try to tell me that wasn't inspired by both the Gravity Hammer and the SPNKR rocket Launcher. And had they done more with comparing and contrasting Elm+Vine and Nora+Ren as well as letting them mutually learn from each other, I'd love this design more.
Fast Knuckles is the best on paper. A highly customized system that should be able to do considerable damage while also complimenting Harriet's speed and offsetting her otherwise lack of raw power. And it's something that feels entirely fitting for Atlas. Give her some shoulder rigs for backups or grenades for long throw fastballs, and nastier impact knuckles, and it's basically perfect.
Even if they really felt the need to give Clover a fishing line-inspired weapon for the allusion, Kingfisher mostly just... looks like an ordinary fishing line. If they had made it some kind of whip/bo staff/sickle combo like an extra long Thief's Respite (with a possible sniper rifle in there) it probably would've looked a lot better.
I did kind of enjoy Clover repeatedly pulling out new luck-associated items to use as weapons. I'd have liked it if they had kept going with that, made his horseshoe a bomb and his shamrock a throwing star, and given him other things like, say, dice grenades. I feel like that could've made a unique fighting style where he doesn't have one main weapon but a bunch of minor ones.
What do you think?
