“ Stick with me, boy! By the time we've leveled Manhattan, I'll have made a REAL goblin out of you! „
~ Green Goblin to Hobgoblin as they destroy New York City.

The Green Goblin is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside the Hobgoblin) of the Spider-Man: The Animated Series episode "I Really, Really Hate Clones", the first part of the two-part series finale.

He is an alternate version of the Prime Universe's Green Goblin who lives on Earth-98311. Under the orders of Spider-Carnage, he, alongside the Hobgoblin, partners up with each other in destroying all of New York City, and inadvertently aids him in his plans to create a machine that will destroy all of reality.

Like his prime counterpart, he was voiced by Neil Ross, who also voiced Morhurl in Forestia, Yevgeny Borisovitch Volgin in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and the Mad Bomber in the Spider-Man 3 video game adaptation.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Likely shares the same unsympathetic backstory, as well as the same moral agency and lack of redeeming qualities his prime counterpart has, given that his universe mostly differed when Peter Parker was cloned.
  • Allies alongside the Hobgoblin with Spider-Carnage to gleefully bring chaos, death and destruction to New York City, essentially turning it into a hellish wasteland. The only survivors left are the Scarlet Spider, Robbie Robertson and J. Jonah Jameson.
  • Assists Spider-Carnage in building a machine capable of destroying all reality, though Green Goblin was tricked into believing that it would be used to strip everyone from their free will, something he gladly accepted.
  • Holds J. Jonah Jameson hostage while Hobgoblin threatens to drop Jameson’s co-worker and friend Robbie Robertson from The Daily Bugle to his death if Jameson doesn't help them break the microwave broadcaster's security system to retrieve the necessary equipment for Spider-Carnage's machine. Though Jameson agrees to help them, Green Goblin forces Jameson to watch as Hobgoblin drops Robbie anyway, though he is fortunately saved by the prime universe's Spider-Man.
  • When prime Spider-Man has him cornered, Green Goblin shoots at him with lasers, kidnaps Jameson, and orders Hobgoblin to "finish the job". In response, Hobgoblin blows up The Daily Bugle, nearly killing Spider-Man in the process.
  • Tries to kill prime Spider-Man and his alternate counterparts from other worlds.
  • Easily meets the Heinous Standards of the Marvel Animated Universe for committing as much death and destruction possible with his limited resources, such as actually succeeding in destroying all of New York City.
  • Displays no love or care for the Hobgoblin beyond admiring his depravity. In fact, it is shown that he looks down on Hobgoblin on two occasions:
    • He treats Hobgoblin as if he doesn't see him as on the same level as him, most evident with his remarks about making a "real" Goblin out of him as they decimate New York City.
    • When Hobgoblin fails in stopping the Spider-Men from different realities, Green Goblin complains that his "bungling" will cost them their time-not showing any concern for Hobgoblin's well-being.
