Shielbert is a character appearing in the "Sword & Shield Chapter" of Pokémon Adventures.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
Sordward and Shielbert regard themselves as heroes, celebrities and royalty. As such, they state how strong and honorable they are, and would do much to perform legendary acts. However, despite this, they don't think much about other people, referring to them as "lowly commoners". Even to achieve their goals, they use dirty tactics, having little regard for morals; when questioned about it, they merely defend themselves using their royal heritage. Finally, they also don't care much about culture, going as far as to falsify history to their advantage.
Biography[]
Sordward and Shielbert were the descendants of the heroes from the Galar legend,[1] but their family kept sources of their descendants a secret.[2] The duo wanted to become famous, much like their ancestors, and thus have hidden a fifth tapestry, forging a fake statue of the "hero" in Budew Drop Inn, and even built a mural to conceal a statue depicting Zacian and Zamazenta.[3]
Shielbert and Sordward, who called themselves as "celebrities", were involved in an incident at the Slumbering Weald,[4] where they took the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield, as well as taking Casey's Pokémon Mega and Giga.[5] They wanted to have their plan executed by the two Legendary Pokémon, Zacian and Zamazenta, but then Casey and Henry Sword interfered. This interrupted the two men's plan, as they had Doublade emit a blinding flash to distract Casey and Henry Sword Sword, and knock them unconscious. Shielbert and Sordward were displeased that these two Pokémon revealed themselves to such "lowly commoners". Looking at the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield, they remarked that it was their ancestors who were the heroes, instead of these lowly Pokémon, and wanted to correct this "false" history. They picked up the items, muttering "celebrity". Noting that Casey was still awake, they had Doublade drain more of her life force to make her unconscious, and took her Pokémon to prevent her from interfering later.[6]
Sword & Shield arc[]
They later met up with a figure of Macro Cosmos, talking to him about the recent events. They mentioned about a "Rusted" thing at some ruins, and noted that two Pokémon will not interfere their plans. Both of them were glad that their interests were in agreement. This meeting was later recorded by Sonia,[7] and she later confirmed that the two men spoke with Chairman Rose,[6] and the latter eventually confirmed it as well.[2] The conversations with Chairman Rose were about summoning Eternatus to collect Galar particles, so that Sordward and Shielbert, once Rose had enough particles, could defeat Eternatus and become heroes, like their ancestors.[3]
After retrieving Peta, Casey took a glance at the images of tapestries that she saw in Galar region. The image of a sword and a shield made her remember two figures resembling those objects.[4] Casey spoke with Marvin, Professor Magnolia and Henry Sword about this revelation, and remembered they had boasted a lot about having retrieved the Rusted Sword and Rusted Shield. Moments later, their motorhome was attacked by a Bronzong and a Golisopod, who had devices attached that could transmit human voices. The voices stated they could not be introduced, as there was a time and place for heroes to be introduced, which made Henry Sword Sword exclaim the word "heroes" that they mentioned.
Casey realized that these voices matched those of the thieves that stole the items and her Pokémon; the voices were disturbed as to be called thieves, and would make retribution on her. Casey shouted out there was nothing honorable about being a thief, but stopped, once the voices had Golisopod and Bronzong show her missing Pokémon—Mega and Giga. The voices wanted of the group to give them an item, but refused to share any details, much to Casey's frustration. In that moment, Piers arrived, showing an object that was given to him. He wondered if that was what they were looking for, to which the voices identified the item.[5]
Sordward and Shielbert demanded the camera Piers showed. The latter gave it to Golisopod and Bronzong, who quickly went away. However, realizing that the memory was taken out, the two men sent their Pokémon to Spikemuth to attack Casey and Henry Sword. Piers showed the contents of a memory card on the large screen, displaying a corrupted video, while the lights went out. The men noted that their plans were not disrupted by this set back, and had Golisopod and Bronzong were to walk away. However, the Pokémon were stopped by Casey, who had Raboot use Flame Charge to strike at Golisopod and Bronzong, knocking the broadcasting devices off. The men echoed their voices in the dark environment, threatening to hurt Mega and Giga, who were in their possession. Casey became frustrated, as to why they had released her Pokémon, while Henry Sword Sword demanded to know why they took the Rusted Sword and Shield. The two men refused to answer to "lowly commoners".
In that moment, Piers detected the location of the men: a light shone on the two men, to where Henry Sword and Casey found the two men in suits, with distinctive hairstyles. The men were annoyed that they have been found: Piers pointed out by destroying their broadcasting equipment and turning off the lights, they revealed the location by uttering their voices. The men were impressed by this lowly wisdom, and explained that Zacian and Zamazenta were interested in Henry Sword Sword and Casey. They refused to reveal more information or give away the Pokémon to Casey, for when the time comes, their plans will come in fruition and will be recognized as heroes. Casey became angry, and sent her Pokémon to attack. However, in that moment, she phased out, to which Henry Sword Sword Sword rushed to her aid. The two men noted that Casey has yet to regain her full memories, and their Pokémon went to attack Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword.[7]
Casey quickly snapped out of her state, and warned Henry Sword, who dodged Doublade's attack. The two men were surprised to see her having recovered so quickly from Doublade's Lick, and had it repeat its attack. Piers stopped them, having it slam Doublade. Piers then had it attack Sordward and Shielbert, but Marnie shouted out to her brother, preventing Obstagoon from slashing the duo. The men were very nervous that they could have been easily be slashed, so they made their getaway by flying away with a Klinklang, who burst a hole through the gate. Casey attempted to follow them, but tripped over due to her fatigue.[6] Shielbert and Sordward went inside the tower at Hammerlocke, announcing the next part of their plan. Sonia recognized them, but was too late, with the entrance to the power plant sealed. The two went to the top, where they held a broadcast to announce they were ancestors of the heroes from Galar legend, ready to take on the calamity, Eternatus. They also showed the Rusted Sword and Shield, to prove that they, indeed, were royalty.[1]
The duo faced Eternatus, using Golisopod and Bronzong to strike it. While Eternatus was held aback, it managed to launch Flamethrower to defeat both Pokémon with one strike. Chairman Rose urged the duo to get Eternatus pumped up, so more Galar particles could be generated. Sordward and Shielbert felt insulted, for they claimed they fought valiantly to end the Darkest Day. Thus, they took out the Rusted Sword and Shield, showing it to Eternatus. The latter stood silent for a moment, making the duo excited. However, they expected the relics to transform into the sword and shield, like the statue at Budew Drop Inn was showing. Eternatus, in retaliation, attacked Sordward and Shielbert, inflicting wounds on them. The brothers cried, not knowing why their plans have failed, and in another strike, they fell off the tower. However, they were saved by Chairman Rose's Ferrothorn, who held them to prevent their fall. Rose was not pleased, scolding both brothers for falsifying much of the history involving the legend. The brothers suspected Rose plotted their downfall, but the latter merely wished of them to show their heroism they spoke so much about—and lied.[2]
The group went to the top of the power plant, where they saw Sordward and Shielbert hanging from the wall. Sonia, Henry Sword and Casey remained behind to question them, and the latter wanted to take her rage out on them to find out where two of her Pokémon were. The brothers stated they didn't know, thinking they fell from the power plant, much like the "junk" of Rusted Sword and Shield. They did confirm that they plotted with Rose all of this, so they could become heroes—their legends recorded in history. However, Sonia and Casey pointed out that even with falsified history, they were still not "heroic" enough to defeat Eternatus, which made the brothers upset. Henry Sword Sword asked them about stopping Eternatus, to which the brothers admitted they also created false clues, and have hidden the actual sources, on defeating it. Casey became angry to hear that, but then realized the true heroes were the Pokémon depicted in the statue: Zacian and Zamazenta. Shielbert and Sordward became even more upset, even to hear that their efforts wouldn't be acknowledged, either. Henry Sword Sword Sword inquired about the Rusted Shield and Sword, but the brothers didn't know much about it. Sonia felt it was because they were fake heroes, which aggravated the duo. In that moment, Casey's two Pokémon appeared—Mega and Giga—who carried the Rusted Shield and Sword.[3]
Sordward and Shielbert suffered from a condition after the battle was over. Oleana compared them to Raihan and Henry Sword, noting that they all came in direct contact with Eternatus.[8] At the police station in Hammerlocke, Sordward and Shielbert received the cure, but this also made their hair overgrown. The brothers inquired whether the media would interview them.[9]
