Bede is a character appearing in Sword & Shield Chapter of Pokémon Adventures.

Appearance[]

This section, or a part of it, has been transcluded from Bede; any changes involving it should be made there instead. /

Bede has a curly head of platinum blond hair and purple eyes that are heavily lashed. He wears a long magenta and violet coat, a golden wristwatch, a single thumbless glove, a Dynamax Band, white pants that are meshed along the back and pink tabi-style sneakers. His coat has the Macro Cosmos symbol and a pouch stitched on the back.

Personality[]

Bede is a snobbish boy, who values his endorsement by Chairman Rose much more than other Trainers being endorsed by other people. He is quite prideful of being the Chairman's assistant, and is quite displeased when the Chairman starts taking notice of other valued Trainers. He disapproves of Hop, due to his carefree nature.

Etymology[]

Bede's name derives from Beta vulgaris (beet), which is a species of flowering plant in the subfamily, Betoideae, of the Amaranthaceae family.

Biography[]

Bede was recognized by Chairman Rose as a Trainer with potential. Before entrusting him with a Dynamax Band for his Gym Challenge, Chairman Rose had him sent to the Pokémon School to improve his Trainer talent, believing he would protect Galar region someday.[1]

Sword & Shield arc[]

Bede was waiting with Hop and Marnie at Turffield's entrance, blocked by a boulder, when Henry Sword, Casey, Marvin and Sonia approached them. The five Trainers decided to work together, as they went to destroy the boulder, which was simply relocated. As the rest went to the stadium, Bede remained behind to have Hatenna attack the boulder. Henry Sword Sword approached Bede, who was a bit annoyed by his presence. Henry Sword Sword Sword believed that Bede wanted to protect the boulder from others not so for strength, but what the boulder contained, to which Bede refused to answer. As Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword left, Bede's Hatterene used Confusion to shatter the boulder, and counted three Wishing Stars.

At the stadium, Bede was watching Henry Sword battling Milo, during which he contacted Oleana. He explained he would soon enter the Gym Battle, and that he was still collecting Wishing Stars for "the Gathering". Before ending the call, he asked of her to pass his regards to the chairman.[2] Bede continued to observe Henry Sword Sword's match against Milo, where it was mentioned that Henry Sword Sword Sword was approved by the Champion to take on the Gym Challenge. Bede claimed that Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword should throw away his match, since he didn't research his opponent on time. Moreover, he stated that being endorsed by Chairman Rose was more important, which annoyed Hop, since there shouldn't be any difference. Even more, Bede refused to say anything the key point about this match, which annoyed Hop to shout at him, before Marnie cut their talk. After Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword won the battle, Bede furiously walked away, after Hop mentioned that being endorsed by the Champion obviously meant something.[3]

Having arrived in Hulbury, Marvin and Casey didn't see Marnie, Bede nor Hop around, unlike in Turffield.[4] Bede called Oleana, and was annoyed that the chairman didn't arrive to meet him in Hulbury. Oleana explained that the chairman has met up with another Gym Challenger—Henry Sword—which postponed his other duties. Bede became extremely furious, for that the chairman had time to meet Gym Challengers that he didn't even endorse. Oleana reminded him he had to collect the Wishing Stars as instructed. She hung up, as she had other duties to do. Bede's fury made him wait at a tree for Henry Sword Sword to approach it, so his Ponyta could assault him. Bede claimed Henry Sword Sword Sword was an eyesore to him, as his Ponyta fired a Fairy Wind. Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword found it strange that Bede would attack him like that, for he assumed the chairman would not like if the Trainer he endorsed would do just that. Bede's anger intensified, for he demanded of Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword not to talk like he knew the chairman. In fact, he claimed that being endorsed by the chairman was much more important than to be by a Champion, and why he was disgusted that the chairman met up with Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword.

Henry Sword could not understand, for the chairman invited him to the lunch, which made Bede even more annoyed, thinking the chairman would take note of him if he would defeat Henry Sword Sword. The latter sent Steeler out to attack Bede's Galarian Ponyta with Hammer Arm, but missed. Bede tried to provoke Henry Sword Sword Sword, who remained silent, and had Steeler fire a Rock Slide to spread dust around. Seeing a figure in the dust, Bede had Ponyta attack it, only to reveal Steeler's beam left behind. As Bede realized this was a strategy similar to Milo's, Steeler used Rock Slide to defeat Ponyta. Despite his loss, Bede smiled as he raised Ponyta up. He reminded himself he should become stronger to get the chairman's recognition, and explained to Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword that he had been collecting Wishing Stars in Turffield, at the chairman's request.

As Bede walked away with Ponyta, Henry Sword understood that Bede's intentions were positive, as his Ponyta continued to remain around, for it sensed Bede's thoughts were genuine.[5] Bede faced against Kabu, Gym Leader of Motostoke, and won that fight. The battle took an interest to Raihan, who wondered if she would successful enough to face him in battle.[6] When Henry Sword Sword, Sonia and Raihan compared evidences related to the Darkest Day, Henry Sword Sword Sword remembered that Chairman Rose had Bede collect Wishing Stars, thinking he was trying to terrorize Galar region by re-enacting that event.[7] Bede briefly watched Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword's battle against Allister. He noted that his Oranguru did take some damage from Gigantamax Gengar's Max Ooze, and it would take one more move to defeat it. As Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword hadn't researched his opponent, Bede became disappointed and walked away.

Using Chairman Rose's Copperajah, Bede had it attack the Stow-on-Side's mural, finding some Wishing Stars in it. Allister asked of him to stop, but Bede didn't hear him because of his quiet tone, to which Casey yelled out at him. Bede refused to stop, stating he was here on behalf of Chairman Rose. However, Oleana and her assistants came, the latter binding Bede. Bede was annoyed, reminding Rose did give him this task, but Oleana stated that Rose sent her to stop him. Hearing his protegé was causing trouble, Chairman Rose arrived to the scene as well. Bede was surprised to find the Chairman present, too, who was not pleased with Bede. Rose reminded despite giving Bede the task to collect the Wishing Stars, he didn't expect of this promising Trainer to start destroying the mural.

Rose demanded of Bede's Wishing Stars to be handed over and go to Hammerlocke. Bede became upset, as Rose ordered him to give his Dynamax Band, for he was no longer endorsed for the Gym Challenge.[1] Henry Sword, Casey, Professor Magnolia and Marvin discussed Rose revoking Bede's endorsement. They noticed that despite Bede being disallowed to continue the Gym Challenge, he did not attack Rose or others out of anger.[8] Bede went to Hammerlocke to give his equipment to the receptionist. The latter handed him a letter from Opal, which he read, and put it in his pocket. Suddenly, the ground started to shake and emit a strange sound, which made Bede wonder if it came from the power plant.[9]

Bede stormed outside, encountering Sonia in the crowd. Bede wanted to know what was going on, and was told that Leon wanted to enter the power plant, but failed, due to the security. Bede wanted to enter, too, hearing Chairman Rose was inside as well. His Hatenna used its psychic powers to move people away, but was stopped by Raihan and Leon, who had disagreements whether he should go inside or help evacuate. As the two men argued, Bede stormed away, his intention to reach Chairman Rose having wilted away.[10] Bede went to Ballonlea to meet with Opal. Opal admitted she didn't expect Bede to come, but Bede cut the talk, knowing she was trying to provoke him. Opal became impressed, and told Bede that he had passed.[11]

Bede was battling a Trainer, to start his training as a Gym Leader. His Hatenna was about to deal a finishing blow, but the Trainer suddenly asked Bede what were Fairy-type Pokémon weak to. Bede was annoyed at first, but then casually answered Poison-type. In this distraction, his Hatenna took a serious blow by the Trainer's Slurpuff. Opal stopped the match, reminding Bede could not afford to be arrogant in battle to answer questions, If he was close to victory. Moreover, she reminded that he was training to become a Gym Leader, and should stay alert. Still, she praised that he was trying to be honest towards his opponent. Bede cut the talk, so Opal ordered a break. As Bede was healing his Hatenna, Opal noted despite his arrogance, Bede was still a good Trainer: his Hatenna, a sensitive Pokémon, still remained near Bede, who didn't show malice, and felt his way of talking was just a way to defend himself.[12] Opal spoke with Piers about the way Chairman Rose treated Bede. Piers also spoke with Raihan, and felt that Chairman Rose had a hidden, bigger motive for disqualifying Bede for destroying the mural.[13]

Opal received a call about Chairman Rose. After ending it, she knew Bede was listening in on her conversation. Bede tried to refute this, but Opal gave him a chance to go with her and find out what Chairman Rose was up to. The two went to Rose Tower at Wyndon, where they were blocked by Oleana. Bede tried to force his way in, but Oleana reminded that Chairman Rose was not here. She did wonder why was Opal here, to which the latter doubted that Oleana would understand the answer. Oleana, seeing that they would not leave, sent her Pokémon to stop them, and in that moment, the Gym Leaders—as well as Henry Sword, Casey, Hop and Marnie—came in as well, sending their Pokémon to battle. As Piers was fighting Garbodor, Bede snuck into the elevator with his peers. While going up, the group asked about Bede's outfit. Bede became furious, pointing his finger at Henry Sword Sword, blaming him for his predicament, which wouldn't have happened if Henry Sword Sword Sword didn't have lunch with Rose. He blamed the rest as well, wishing he hadn't met them at all. Hop reminded that they'd eventually meet each other, being Gym Challengers.

Bede explained he was training to become a Gym Leader. The group congratulated him, but Bede dismissed Henry Sword, not wishing his gratitude. On the top of the tower, the group saw that Rose was absent. Suddenly, a recording of Chairman Rose was shown, confirming that he was absent. However, he made it clear that he wanted to start the Darkest Day, but at the Champion Cup, but was forced to execute this plan at an earlier date. He made it clear this was to protect the Galar region in a thousand years. He asked of the group to continue their efforts to start a new heroic legend, and then ended the broadcast. The group then saw that a beam of light was shot out of Hammerlocke, triggering the Darkest Day, for Power Spots were forming around Galar region. Descending down, the group saw that Pokémon were Dynamaxed, and were causing panic. Oleana ended the battle with the Gym Leaders, stating that they could visit Rose at Hammerlocke. The group noted that they couldn't use the monorail or the Corviknight taxi, due to the terror. In that moment, Professor Magnolia came with her motorhome, and asked of the group to go in as they rode to Hammerlocke.[14]

Bede was in the motorhome heading to Hammerlocke, which, due to a collapsed bridge, took a bumpy ride on the railway. With the call of Trainers asking of Gym Leaders for support, Opal decided to help her people back home, leaving Bede to join the group to confront Chairman Rose. Having arrived, Bede went outside the motorhome to join Henry Sword, who dashed away. Bede also gave money to the railway officer for illegal driving on the railway, which made some see the reason why Opal chose him as the successor. After meeting up with Leon, Sonia, Nessa and Raihan, the group tried to enter the power plant. Bede called Oleana about this, and became infuriated to hear that they arrived too early. The entrance soon opened and the group went inside the power plant, where they saw Chairman Rose proclaiming the success of his mission.[15] Bede and others confronted Chairman Rose, who stated that while certain crimes were committed, it was all to protect the Galar region, to accumulate Galar particles. Since the exit was sealed, Bede decided to watch the battle between Eternatus against Sordward and Shielbert.[16]

Oleana, who came out of the elevator, asked for their help, which made Casey angry at her for luring them in and trapping them. Oleana reminded that Rose needed help, for he was trying to save Galar from its devastating future. Others had their doubts about this, to which Oleana admitted that even if Rose's intentions were benevolent, he could still make a wrong decision and suffer, to which Melony noted she was right. Bede called the elevator, pointing out there wasn't much time to argue. The group went to the top of the power plant, where Eternatus defeated Rose. With the fires spreading, the Gym Leaders arrived and stopped the fire, letting Raihan and Leon to come in and rescue Rose. As Eternatus swung its tail, Bede's Hattrem evolved into a Hatterene and fired Dazzling Gleam to distract Eternatus, which made Leon and Raihan drag Rose to safety. The chairman was grateful for their rescue, as well as Bede, who realized that the chairman didn't forget his name. Rose admitted that he "slipped up", whereas Oleana asked of Rose to drop the charade, for he couldn't forget Bede's name if he sent him to collect the Wishing Stars. Bede became upset, wanting answers for this. With the group fighting Eternatus, Oleana received a call that there was an increase of Galar particles: Rose noted that Eternatus was getting into its "serious mode".[17] Bede, Rose and Oleana witnessed Eternatus' form change.[18]

Just as Zacian and Zamazenta collided with Eternatus, a bright light flashed. By the time the rest of the Gym Leaders came to the top, they found everyone, including Bede, unconscious. The group was taken to the hospital in Hammerlocke, where they were recovering. However, Bede recovered quickly, and went to see Chairman Rose at the police hospital. He became annoyed when the police refused him entry. Thus, he regrouped with Casey, Marvin, Hop and Marnie. Casey believed that Henry Sword and the relics were located either at Crown Tundra or Island of Armor, but Bede doubted that was accurate. Hop became angry at Bede for making Casey worried. Bede cut the talk, proposing to split the team to search both islands, to which Oleana showed tickets to go to both of these places.[19]

Bede was paired with Marnie and Hop to find Henry Sword at Crown Tundra. Bede complied, but stated he could do also well alone. This aggravated Hop, and Marnie became tired of their bickering, but they all stopped when Casey shouted out that they'd find Henry Sword Sword. After parting ways with the rest, Bede took a ride on the train with Marnie and Hop.[20] As they took the train, the group noticed a suspicious girl walking in, who was trying to hide from an old man. Bede, Hop and Marnie gave parts of their clothes to disguise her, which worked. The old man came in looking for her, but failed to notice her in the disguise. Marnie and Hop compared him to Chairman Rose, but Bede angirly cut their talk. The girl thanked them, and added that man was her father. Bede compared her and the old man with himself and Chairman Rose, thinking of it as something benevolent. As the old man returned, Bede removed the girl's disguise, upsetting her.

As they came to Crown Tundra, the group encountered the girl, who called Bede a traitor, much to his displeasure. Marnie challenged the old man, Peony, to have his daughter roam free. Peony accepted her challenge; Bede wanted to battle, but Marnie stepped in, thinking he'd lose on purpose. Thus, Hop and Bede watched this confrontation. Hop also added how they constantly get involved with other situations, to which Bede stated they did this a lot.[21] Due to type disadvantage, Bede pointed out someone else could've battled Peony. However, Marnie's Morgrem evolved into a Grimmsnarl and defeated Copperajah. Peonia became elated, thanking Marnie and went on her way. Peony thought it was a shame, but then reconsidered that he would've liked to see Peonia independent. Bede thought it was a good idea to join Peony, much to others' surprise. Hop was against that, but Marnie reminded that Peony could be their guide around Crown Tundra, while searching for the Rusted Sword and Shield. Bede boasted that that was what he was thinking about. Peony let them accompany him, as they headed to Freezington. On their way, Marnie informed others that Casey and Marvin have found Henry Sword.[22]

Peony took the group to the lodge in Freezington, where they met the mayor. The mayor stated that they already prepared the lodge, and let Peony know that having more kids was no problem at all. He looked at the curly-haired Bede, mistaking him as Peony's daughter, which made Marnie and Hop laugh. He then thought Marnie was Peony, but stopped, and let the group come in. Inside, the group was glad to see warm dinner on the table. As they were eating, Peony told them as part of his "Peony Exploration Team", they would go after Legendary Pokémon: a group of titans, three mysterious birds and the King of Bountiful Harvests. Bede, Hop and Marnie introduced themselves to Peony, who learned their names.[23] Having settled in the lodge, Hop received a message that Leon and the Gym Leaders were cured. Bede and Marnie joined in, and the trio was in shock to see that the group that received the cure had overgrown hair.[24]

Due to Peony falling asleep, Hop, Marnie and Bede went alone to investigate the ruins, where they caught Regirock, Regice and Registeel. They moved to investigate a giant tree to find the Rusted Sword. Much to their surprise, they found three giant bird Pokémon resembling Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno. Uncertain which Pokémon had clues about the artifact, the trio ran off to confront these Legendary Pokémon.[25] As the trio fought, Hop noticed that Moltres was starting to fly off, and latched onto its leg. Hop flew away, leaving Marnie and Bede behind. Bede fainted, and was found by Henry Sword. The former became furious to see Henry Sword Sword having arrived to Crown Tundra, wishing it was a hallucination to being frozen. Henry Sword Sword Sword wanted to ask some questions, but Bede shoved off, stating he would answer all at the hideout, to which Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword made fun of. At Freezington, Bede introduced Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword to Peony, who became aggravted, demanding of Henry Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword Sword to leave.[26]
