Strategies[]
With[]
Tough Beets has really good base stats (assuming there is a good number of plants and zombies on field) for a moderate cost of 5, and his Armored trait is also helpful, making him immune to zombies that have only 1 and improving his overall survivability greatly.
Strategies for Super-Phat Beets should apply to Tough Beets too; being such an expensive plant, he should be saved until later in the game, as he can become a really strong plant if played correctly, possibly getting up to +14/+14 if all lanes are filled. However, be warned that your opponent can destroy him by using various tricks, so try to never rely only on him and play other strong plants besides him.
It is recommended to bring plenty of Team-Up plants such as Wall-Nut, Potato Mine or Garlic along with this, as they will allow you to have a large number of plants on the field to help this by a lot. A good time to play this card is when the opponent floods the field, as Tough Beets can get boosted by up to +5/+5 from only the zombies.
Due to his root tribe, he can also be used in conjunction with Starch-Lord to give him a minor boost along with his major strength and health boost when he is played.
Against[]
Tough Beets hits very hard, and his Armored trait makes it very difficult for you to take him down too, as any attack will do 1 less damage. Therefore, the best strategy is to play an instant-kill, as it ignores his Armored trait.
Sneaky heroes can also make use of Deadly zombies to destroy Tough Beets regardless of his health, as well as Backyard Bounce. Lowering its strength using Shrink Ray or Landscaper is also an option, although depleting all his strength is a waste of cards.
Also, while it is not required, it is recommended to remove any Starch-Lords from the field before Tough Beets is played, as they can raise his strength to at least 7, which is quite powerful for a 5 plant.
