King Sidon (JP), formerly known as Prince Sidon, is a character in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. He is the prince of the Zora during the events of the game, he is the son of King Dorephan and the younger brother of Princess Mipha. He has a very enthusiastic personality and is said to be capable of many great feats like being the best swimmer of all the Zora and being a skilled archer and spearman. In the English version, he is voiced by voice director Jamie Mortellaro.[2]
Personality[]
Sidon's personality strongly contrasts Mipha; while she's introverted and soft-spoken more often than not, Sidon is extroverted and livelier. He is optimistic and tends to see things in a bright light which influences those around him, even during dire situations and he is welcoming to outsiders who come to visit Zora's Domain. This doesn't mean he's blind to the circumstances surrounding Divine Beast Vah Ruta's constant rainfall, and he was aware that the only way to deactivate it was to use Shock Arrows at the glowing orbs which was an obstacle even for him as Zora aren't very resilient to electricity, and Seggin, who is known to handle the element slightly longer, was aged) so their only hope was to find an outsider with more resistance who can help deal with the Divine Beast. While he can understand the Zora Council (particularly Muzu)'s grudge and prejudice against Hylians for the loss of Mipha, Sidon still doesn't take lightly to them being rude to Hylian guests and will often shut them off when they act out. He can also be strict to unwanted guests and will escort them away, with Link being the only minor exception as he saw potential that he would help appease Vah Ruta. Sidon is also very determined that he was able to convince Muzu that the Zora Armor was meant for Link and Mipha had genuinely loved him, and she never told Muzu as she was aware that he despised Hylians and would not likely have approved of their union and didn't get the chance to present it to Link. Sidon himself has moments where he stares at Mipha's luminous statue in the central plaza which strongly indicates that he still misses her.
In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, the infant Sidon has shown a great deal of bravery as well as being reckless. Being only a child, he tends to wander away from the domain and sometimes heads to Ploymus Rock to test his courage and stand up to the monsters up to including a Lynel and later an Electric Moblin, which tends to cause Dorephan, Mipha, and the other Zoras great distress since he was too young and inexperienced to be actively involved in battle. This was brought up by Mipha and Sidon's older counterpart, though they do commend his courage. Sidon is very protective of Mipha, as a child and even as an adult, with the latter case being the most obvious when he saw Mipha being attacked by Waterblight Ganon and was about to be killed and he jumped through and blocked its ice-based weapons from reaching her and brought Link and the party enough time to destroy it to ensure their safety. Sidon was able to bond with Mipha throughout the remainder of the game and has moments where he struggles to keep himself together before coming out of it for her sake. They work well together until Calamity Ganon and Astor are defeated, and is eventually sent back to his time, but not before sharing a bittersweet farewell.
History[]
End of the Timelines[]
100 years before The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]
Being a Zora, Sidon have a much longer lifespan than any Hylian and during this time he is only a young toddler. He hardly remembers Link as they didn't interact with each other much, but he is old enough to remember his sister who died during The Great Calamity 100 years prior to the events of the game.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild[]
During Breath of the Wild, Sidon is first seen at Inogo Bridge where he asks Link for help to defeat the Divine Beast Vah Ruta since due to his kind being extremely weak to electricity, he himself can't wield Shock Arrows. He then follows Link as he goes toward Zora's Domain, which is plagued by perpetual rainfall from Vah Ruta. He is next seen at Zora's Domain, where he introduces Link to his father and Muzu and explains the plan to take down the Divine Beast to Link. However, Muzu is extremely distrustful towards Link and Hylians in general, which his prejudice towards them had worsened since Mipha's death. King Dorphan had given Link the Zora armor, leading Muzu to leave the throne room in a huff, since Zora Armor is traditionally made by Zora princesses, who give it to their future husbands in marriage. Sidon decides to talk to Muzu and Link tries on the Zora Armor, which to Muzu's surprise, fits Link perfectly. Sidon explains that Mipha had loved Link and was supposed to present it to him earlier. Muzu reluctantly helps out by telling Link that he can find shock arrows at Ploymus Rock where a Lynel resided and is known for its use of shock arrows and recommends 20 or more of these arrows but remains pessimistic about the outcome. After that, he will help Link in his fight against the Divine Beast by letting Link ride on his back to and swims around while Link deflects Vah Ruta's ice-based attacks and gets close it its waterfalls so Link can climb them and shoot the shock arrows at the four orbs on Vah Ruta to appease it, allowing him to board the beast. This also causes the constant heavy rain to stop, but Link must defeat Waterblight Ganon and free Mipha's spirit, so that she can take aim at Hyrule Castle where Calamity Ganon is sealed. After freeing the Divine Beast, he thanks Link alongside Muzu, who started viewing Hylians in a more positive light, and the King. Sidon will resume his normal life.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom[]
Following the Upheaval, Zora's Domain is threatened by sludge contaminating their water supply; Sidon is able to use his water manipulation abilities to keep the sludge from the water, despite some of it falling from the sky.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]
The Calamity is Averted[]
The young Prince Sidon has wandered off into the forbidden Ploymus Rock without an adult to keep an eye on him, which is known to have Lynels that reside there and Mipha grew worried about his safety and goes to search for him while she and her party, Link, Princess Zelda, and Impa take care of the outposts around the domain. They find Prince Sidon holding a spear while standing his ground against the Lynel, and after Mipha defeats it, she hugs Sidon and lightly scolds him for making them worry, but she praises him for his bravery, which causes Sidon to grin before Mipha would later use Divine Beast Vah Ruta to flush out the monster reinforcements. Mipha is permitted by her father to become the Zora Champion, but promises her to return safely, since Sidon needs his sister.
Later on, when the Great Calamity takes place, Mipha is battling Waterblight Ganon and is struggling against it. As the monster charges at her with the spiked flail and Cryonic constructs, she prepares to face her death with dignity but before she loses her life, a time portal summoned from Terrako calls forth the adult Prince Sidon, who blocks the attacks, refusing to lose her again, much to Mipha's surprise as the other three portals appear to save the other three Champions from falling to a similar fate. As a result, Mipha is able to hold on until help arrives; Link, Impa, and Princess Zelda appear and managed to slay Waterblight. Mipha's fatigue from the battle gets the better of her, and she stays on the Divine Beast to recuperate while Sidon leaves with the party to help save Daruk and his descendant, Yunobo from Fireblight Ganon. He helps defeat the Igneo Talus and Mipha cools the lava flow, using Vah Ruta's trunk to spray water on it, so they can cross over. After the safety of Daruk and Yunobo are secured, Mipha recovers her lost strength enough to board Divine Beast Vah Rudania where she asks if he actually is her brother, whom the Zora prince confirms that he was called from the future to save Mipha as the others who share the same generation traveled back to help the others, Daruk laughs it off stating that they can figure it out later, then he becomes serious as he asks Zelda about what happened back at the castle.
Sidon and Yunobo joins the party to save Revali, Teba, Urbosa, and Riju by defeating Windblight Ganon and Thunderblight Ganon to keep Vah Medoh and Vah Naboris under Hyrulean control. With all four Champions safe, Prince Sidon explains that saw Mipha fighting Waterblight and ended up traveling back to help her out. Princess Zelda learns that those miracles were Terrako's doing and owed to Diminutive Guardian her gratitude for its efforts.
In the Guardian of Remembrance DLC, Mipha and Sidon head to Goponga Village to protect it from Ganon's monsters. After most of them were wiped out, Sidon instructs the able-bodied soldiers while Mipha tends to the injured ones. While he and his soldiers were fighting more Moblins, an Electric Moblin slips by and targets Mipha. A younger Sidon steps in between her and the Moblin, to Mipha's dismay as she pleads for Sidon to leave before the adult Sidon intervenes and slays it before either of them were harmed. Sidon checks on his younger self to make sure he is alright. Mipha is relieved to see that both her brother's counterparts are not hurt and asks why he came here. Sidon tells his younger self that he shouldn't wander off on his own while commending his bravery and encouraged him to become stronger so that he can protect his sister, while trailing off considering that the Mipha in his timeline didn't make it, before they both grin while Mipha laughs.
With Sidon at her side, Mipha leads Vah Ruta to back up the soldiers at Akkala Citadel to keep the fortress from falling to Ganon's forces. Robbie also helped with the efforts and was embarrassed by the fact that he did not look closely at the researchers to make sure that they were not members of the Yiga Clan, which lead to him and Purah being held at blade-point shortly before Ganon returned and subsequentially fled the Royal Science Academy along with Purah. Daruk and Yunobo finally arrived with Vah Rudania to back them up until the cannons are manned and used to destroy the bridge just as the Malice Guardians were crossing over and prevented further attacks. The soldiers were finally able to rest from the battle and Mipha and Sidon assisted Riju and Urbosa at Fort Hateno alongside Vah Rudania and Vah Medoh and after Fort Hateno was saved and Zelda's power awakening and Purah activating a failsafe to shut off the vast majority of the corrupted Guardians that would have razed Hyrule.
The Champions, Divine Beasts, their successors, and armies from all over Hyrule are summoned by the restored Sheikah Towers to Hyrule Field to launch a full-scale assault upon Hyrule Castle to take it back from Calamity Ganon. Master Kohga and the Yiga Clan have reformed due to being betrayed by Astor and lost many of his footsoldiers to him and joined them and King Rhoam also survived thanks to the Ancient Guardian Shield that Zelda gave him earlier and lets his daughter take command of the united armies. When Ganon raises a barrier with its monsters, the warriors destroy them to bring it back down so the Champions can fire their lasers to weaken him, but the Blood Moon rises and all of the fallen monsters were revived, but despite this the army pressed forward.
With the defenses breached, the heroes charge into Hyrule Castle where Astor and Harbinger Ganon, that timeline's Terrako, awaited them. They are able to utterly destroy all four Blight Ganons for good and they continued on and defeated Harbinger Ganon and Astor. The prophet enters into a complete mental breakdown as he orders Ganon to destroy the warriors, but then the seer is absorbed by Ganon's Malice to achieve its perfect form and some of the Malice attached to Terrako, which it turned against the warriors against its will. Terrako is defeated and critically damaged, and Sidon, along with the others mourned for it. Princess Zelda is enraged and swears that she will make sure Calamity Ganon is brought down and make their way to the sanctum. Ganon at first proved to be too much for the heroes, so Zelda tries to seal it. Her power brings Terrako back and it charges upstairs and jumps between Ganon and the princess, destroying itself and Ganon's defenses. They are now able to weaken Ganon enough for Link to cleave it with the Master Sword, and Princess Zelda to seal it away. With Calamity Ganon vanquished, Terrako's blessed screw activates one last time to send Prince Sidon, Yunobo, Teba, and Riju back to their timelines and Zelda gives her eternal gratitude to them as they are sent home and wishes them a bright future.
In the secret DLC ending, Sidon bonds with his younger self while Mipha visits them and pets them both and they grin once more. Later, Sidon is interacting with the other Champions as Terrako joins in.
