Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is a racing video game developed by Bamtang Games and published by GameMill Entertainment for the Nintendo Switch. A sequel to Nickelodeon Kart Racers, it was released on October 6, 2020.

A sequel, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway, followed on October 7, 2022. All three games were later re-released in the Nickelodeon Kart Racers Collection box set in September 2023.

Gameplay[]

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix features a selection of 30 playable characters, consisting of real-life celebrity JoJo Siwa, and characters from 12 different Nicktoons: SpongeBob SquarePants, CatDog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Loud House, Rugrats, Danny Phantom, Hey Arnold!, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Invader Zim, and Rocko's Modern Life. This makes for the biggest roster in any Nickelodeon racing game (until its sequel), with 13 of the characters having not been playable in any previous entries.

28 courses, some remastered from its predecessor, and two arenas based on different locations from the shows are included in the game. There are also 70 bonus characters so players can assemble their "ultimate pit crew."

Like its predecessor, it has local multiplayer for up to four players, but it also has online multiplayer for up to eight players, a feature that was not in its predecessor.[1] The karts can be customized, and power-ups can be picked up from the courses.

Development[]

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix was leaked by Target on June 10, 2020, and was announced the very next day. A trailer for the game was released the same day as its announcement.[2]

Reception[]

On Metacritic, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix currently has a score of 72% based on eight reviews, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[3] Nintendo Life called it a "remarkable turnaround" from its predecessor, and stated that "[it] has gone from one of the most disappointing racing series on the Switch to probably the best one that doesn't feature plumbers or hedgehogs".[4]

Trivia[]

  • This is the first console game to feature characters from The Loud House, and also the first Nicktoons racing game to include a real-life celebrity (JoJo Siwa).
  • This game also marks the first appearance of CatDog and Stimpy in a racing game since the original Nicktoons Racing (as well as Ren, though he only had a cameo in that game's PC version), and also marks the first appearance of Aang, Danny, and Zim in a racing game since 2008's Nicktoons Nitro.
  • This is the first sequel to a Nicktoons crossover console game since SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom, which was the fourth installment in the Nicktoons Unite! series.
