Shinobu Kocho is a major supporting character in the action dark fantasy anime/manga series, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
She is the Insect Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, and the second youngest member of the elite group. Despite being less powerful in regard of physical strength than the other Hashiras, Shinobu is a very intelligent and cunning scientist, and is able to create poisons deadly to demons. She is the younger sister of the late Kanae Kocho, and the adoptive older sister of Kanao Tsuyuri.
She is voiced by Saori Hayami in Japanese, who also voiced Yukino Yukinoshita from Oregairu, and by Erika Harlacher in English, who voiced Ann Takamaki from Persona 5.

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- She is one of the most empathetic characters in the series, having a strong sense of justice and always wanting to help those in need, especially those who have suffered at the hands of demons.
- She was the one that suggested Kanae for them to adopt Kanao, along with her saved her from slavery and abuse and was the one who distracted the man that owned Kanao by throwing a bunch of coins in the air to distract the bystanders while she and Kanae flees with Kanao.
- She saved Murata from Spider Sister.
- She has empathy for Tanjiro since she had a sister just like him.
- She works together with Tamayo to create a poison that can kill Muzan for good.
- She fights against Doma to avenge her sister, Kanae Kocho.
- She made a sacrifice by allowing herself to be consumed by Douma while having poison inside her, killing him and preventing him from killing the rest of the slayers.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She has a high level of ruthlessness and bad lethality when dealing with her enemies, having a zero-mercy and tolerance policy towards demons and being willing to kill Nezuko despite her being a good-hearted demon, and although she said the execution would be swift and painless, there is no evidence or proof that she was telling the truth or she could only being saying that to taunt Tanjiro even more and didn’t allow Tanjiro to explain himself. Even if she was telling the truth, it would still mean killing Nezuko either way. In addition, she is willing to torture demons for their deeds/actions. For example:
- She was willing to torture the Spider Sister.
- To add more fuel to the fire, she also taunted the Sister Spider’s corpse even after her death.
- She can be a jerk at times, such as telling Giyu he has no friends (although they are in reality friends), as well as poking and annoying him sometimes.
- She is willing to lie to get what she wants; however, it is usually for the greater good.
