“ | I'M ALL FIRED UP!!!!!! | „ |
~ Natsu's catchphrase. |
“ | I will never stop trying, I will never stop fighting for my future and everyone else's, the world we live in is what we make of it... and no matter what's going to happen tomorrow, I'm going to keep fighting to live today! | „ |
~ Natsu highlighting his determination to protect everyone. |
Natsu Dragneel, also known by his title, Salamander, is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Lucy Heartfilia) of the Fairy Tail franchise. He is a Fire Dragon Slayer, and a member of the strongest wizard guild in Fiore, Fairy Tail, as well as a member of its sub-group, Team Natsu.
He is the adoptive son of Igneel the Fire Dragon. He's also revealed to be the younger brother of the infamous Black Wizard Zeref Dragneel.
He was voiced by Tetsuya Kakihara in Japanese, who also voiced Simon in Gurren Lagann, and Todd Haberkorn in English, who also voiced Marlowe Freudenberg in Attack on Titan.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- His friends are the most important thing in the world to him, even more important than his life.
- He is willing to risk everything to protect those he cares about.
- He cares more about the lives of others than his own.
- He thinks of everyone in Fairy Tail as family (especially Lucy).
- While he does enjoy fighting others like Gray and Gajeel, he really only likes it as a sport, and hates it when there's actual killing involved.
- He loathes guilds who don't treat their members with respect.
- His views inspired Sting and Rogue to change their guild for the better, and care more about their guildmates.
- He believes that there is no such thing as defeat until you give up, and is always telling his friends to never give up no matter what.
Fairy Tail[]
- Natsu stopped a brainwashed Jellal in his plans to harm Erza and attempting to use her a sacrificial pawn for Zeref.
- He even wrathfully beats Jellal up for making Erza cry over Simon’s death.
- He stopped Laxus when the latter intended on causing actual harm to the guild.
- Natsu and his allies stopped King Faust in his plan to commit genocide against the Exceeds.
- Natsu supported Mystogan by pretending to play the role as a villain so that the people of Edolas can see Mystogan as a reputable hero to the public.
- He helped stop Future Rogue Cheney in his plans from letting the dragons destroy the world. After Future Rogue Cheney's defeat and the latter revealing who killed Frosch which turned him to villainy, Natsu made sure to prevent Gray from killing Frosch which would have led Rogue to villainy.
- Natsu along with Gray, Lucy, Happy, Erza, and members of the Fairy Tail guild saved a town of 30,000 people from a cult of Zeref, Avatar, who intended to kill innocents to appease their idol. Natsu defeated the battle god, Ikusa-Tsunagi, and stopped them.
- He fights against Zeref and manages to overpower him when he was at his strongest form with the Fairy Heart, saving the current timeline, though Natsu still misunderstood him rather blindly.
- He, along with the Dragon Slayers, fights against Acnologia in the Space Between Time and manages to defeat him and save the world.
Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest[]
- When he met Zeref again, he expressed fondness for his brother, indicating he might have forgiven Zeref.
- During 100 Year Quest, Natsu realized how wrong he was about Zeref after using his curse to weaken Aldoron and felt painfully remorseful for misinterpreting and hurting the last blood-related family member he had left.
- During the fight against Aldoron, he even states that he considers Zeref as his only true brother, since Ignia was nothing like him.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can sometimes be too short-tempered, reckless and jerkish to be Pure Good.
- He has occasional moments of being a jerk to others. However, these moments are usually just him messing with his friends and being childish, making this a minor prevention.
- He can be pretty careless and destructive with his magic. However, this is mainly due to him being an idiot, making this another minor prevention.
- He was extremely stubborn and ignorant towards his older brother Zeref, even after Mavis revealed his Curse of Contradiction to him. Even after learning about his past and that Zeref is his older brother, Natsu was not the least bit reluctant to defeat him and never once tried knowing why his brother did all the things he did in the Alverez Empire Arc, and he even kept blindly asserting that everything Zeref did during the Alverez Empire Arc was intentional and purely out of malice, even though his situation was extremely complicated because of his curse.
- Even after learning that Zeref only really wanted to reset the timeline to ensure humanity has a better future (since for many years, he couldn't stop being an unintentional problem for everyone no matter how hard he tried, and he had a chance to set things right by using Fairy Heart to restart the timeline), Natsu kept foolishly forcing himself to think that his brother is just a purely evil person who's only caring about himself, even though he really cannot value the lives of others, as it will trigger the curse into killing them automatically. Thankfully, Natsu does realize his mistake in the sequel series and promises to view Zeref as family as well.
- He can be mischievous to the point he can show signs of perversion at times. For example, the running gag of him coming into Lucy's personal space unannounced and unwelcome (in the original anime, he & Happy tend to turn Lucy's apartment into a mess pile), and the time when he tickled Lucy's feet with his cat's tail (which made her snap and call him a "creep" for that alone). However, these moments are played for comedy, thus making it a minor prevention.
