Beta Mariotia is a class G yellow star with an associated star system located in the Mariotian sector, within a few days' travel of Starbase 44 in the space of the galaxy's Alpha or Beta Quadrant.
History and specifics[]
The system's orbit has at least three worlds, including third planet Beta Mariotia III, a class M world which supported a Harahni farming colony.
In the year 2267, shortly after Ensign Pavel Chekov was promoted to junior navigator, the Federation starship USS Enterprise left Starbase 44 to survey the Mariotian sector. A few days into their mission, the ship picked up a radio signal distress call from Beta Mariotia, two light years from their position, and diverted to the system at warp six. - The stellar notation using the Greek language letter "beta" indicates that there might be a star group or constellation of some sort named "Mariotia", of which Beta Mariotia would logically be indicated to be the second most prominent star or system.
