Monad (深層モナド, Shinsou Monado)? is an optional block of Tartarus in Persona 3.
Profile[]
- Music: "tartarus_0d01" (Thebel Block's Music)
In the original version of Persona 3, it would become accessible right after reaching the top floor of the Adamah Block (254F.) In Persona 3 FES, it is also required to defeat the Reaper and turning in the quest. In Persona 3 Portable, Monad is available when Request #53 is completed. After turning in the quest, the protagonist can accept Request #55 and #72.
Monad will appear as an enormous door to the right of the stairs at the entrance (on 1F). It consists of 10 floors, each of which are larger than the rest of Tartarus. Visually it resembles the Thebel Block, but with an orange color theme instead of green. All Shadows are Lv. 88+, making Monad an excellent way to level up quickly. From the 6th floor onward, the Shadows of this block will appear in mixed groups, forcing the party to choose their attacks more carefully while reducing the effectiveness of multi-target attacks. There are no two-way transporters in Monad and the Portable-introduced ability to start from the highest reached floor does not apply - you must start from 1F every time you venture into it.
The 10th and final floor of Monad contains a chest with ¥1,000,000. As part of Request #55, the protagonist is asked to defeat "The Ultimate Opponent" on Monad's 10th floor who is none other than Elizabeth or Theodore. Note that Request #55 is only available in New Game Plus if the protagonist spared Ryoji (Except for FES where it will unlock automatically in New Game+).
In New Game Plus, Monad Depths will be available for exploration from April 22nd if it was unlocked during the previous playthrough (Except for FES where it will unlock automatically in New Game+).
Monad is vastly changed in Persona 3 Reload, instead appearing in random floors beginning in the Yabbashah Block, and each Monad takes the appearance of the block the door is found in, but with red colorations, and only one fight within, with two treasures at the end. There will always be one consumable item and one fusion material. Fixed Monad Passages can also be found on floors immediately before a Border Floor (beginning halfway through Yabbashah) and contains two to three fights within, and the reward for clearing these Passages are the Major Arcana Cards XIV through XX to add to Shuffle Time with their own effects, as well as books that increase the maximum amount of Major Arcana cards selectable in Shuffle Time per Tartarus visit by one. The "Ultimate Opponent" fight (now request #101) is also now placed within the final chamber of Adamah Block's fixed Monad Passage on the 255th floor.
In the Episode Aigis - The Answer DLC of Persona 3 Reload, Monad Doors can now appear in random floors in any of the doors at the Abyss of Time. However, they will always appear in groups of three doors, each progressing in difficulty from left to right. A higher difficulty door requires the party to fight multiple waves of enemies within a single fight (two in the middle door, three in the right door) but will grant an additional card to pick out of Shuffle Time and significantly more chests upon victory. Only one door can be chosen per floor. After the battles against S.E.E.S members, a new optional fixed dungeon, Monad Chambers, is available for exploration from the Desert of Doors. It functions similarly to the fixed Monad Passages from the main story, allowing the player to fight against a few groups of very strong enemies and collect various items along the way. An optional superboss fight against the protagonist of Persona 5 is available upon reaching the depths of the Monad Chambers.

Trivia[]
- The word Monad is taken from Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz's theories, Monad being the spiritual equivalent to the atom in his postulates about the nature of the world. Another reference to the Monad is made in the earlier game Persona 2: Eternal Punishment with the Monado Mandala dungeon.
