Proto Shield, known as Blues Shield (ブルースシールド Burūsu Shīrudo) in Japan, is Proto Man's shield. It was created by Dr. Wily to compensate for Proto Man's weak stamina.[1]
Appearances[]
In Mega Man 7, Mega Man can battle Proto Man in Shade Man's stage if he was found in Cloud Man's and Turbo Man's stages. If Mega Man wins, he can actually obtain the shield. The Proto Shield is capable of blocking some projectiles, but only if Mega Man is standing still and not shooting at the time.
In Super Adventure Rockman, Proto Man will drop his shield to save Mega Man from Sniper Joes in episode 2. Mega Man can use his shield if the player finds it by following the flashing arrows that appear in the sides of the screen, first finding an Information Card, and then the shield. When equipped, it reduces the damage Mega Man takes.
In Mega Man 9 and Mega Man 10, the Proto Shield can be used by Proto Man to reflect enemy attacks, but only while he is jumping.
In Mega Man Powered Up, Proto Man can use the Proto Shield to deflect frontal attacks. Although he starts with the shield, Proto Man will only start using it after reaching Dr. Light's Laboratory.
In Mega Man X DiVE, Proto Shield is one of Proto Man's Active Skills. When used, Proto Man will raise his shield and block frontal attacks. Proto Man can't move while using the shield, the shield staying up until it takes a lot of damage or is used again. When used again while is effect, Proto Man will do a Shield Charge, dashing forward and bashing targets on his way. He withdraws the shield after the attack. The player can also improve the skill by equipping one of the three Skill Cards that become available by increasing Proto Man's rank:
- Show Time - Halves the damage taken while using Proto Shield.
- Power Increase - The Shield Charge damage increases by 10%.
- Protective Shield - Proto Man gains an energy shield when he uses the Proto Shield.
In the Mega Man Battle Network series, ProtoMan.EXE has his own shield similar to his original counterpart.
Appearances in other media[]
The Proto Shield appears in most media featuring Proto Man, like the Rockman manga series, the Mega Man Megamix manga series, and Rockman 10 -Extra F-, but is not present in the Mega Man animated series and in Mega Man: Upon a Star.
In Mega Man Gigamix, Proto Man uses his shield as a transport to travel to space and battle against the Stardroids.
In the Rockman 7 manga, Proto Man challenges Mega Man for a fight before he goes to the Wily Castle. Mega Man wins the battle, and he gives the Proto Shield to Mega Man. Mega Man kept using the Proto Shield until it was broken during his second battle against Bass.
