—Freeze Man, Mega Man & Bass database

Freeze Man (フリーズマン Furīzuman) is an ice-themed Robot Master from Mega Man 7. He was originally built as a prototype robot for non-polluting energy before being modified for combat by Dr. Wily. Based on the theory that high and low temperatures combined are equal to normal temperature, Freeze Man can split the normal temperature in the ambient into high and low temperatures, using the former as an energy source and the latter to attack with his Freeze Cracker; these snowflake-like projectiles explode into smaller shards that spread out upon impact with something in their way, and are effective versus Slash Man.

Personality[]

An egotistical show-off most of the time, Freeze Man is a perfectionist who likes to make cool, stylish poses in order to impress others. He has great respect for Ice Man, the first ice-themed Robot Master in the series. Freeze Man enjoys reading mystery novels in his spare time and dislikes pollution.

Games[]

Mega Man 7[]

Attack Pattern[]

Freeze Man will stand completely still if Mega Man does not do anything, even taunting Mega Man to pull out the first move. If Mega Man jumps or moves towards him at the start, Freeze Man will run forward to the wall. He will do short jumps forward if Mega Man shoots at him while he is running, allowing Mega Man to slide right under. If Mega Man shoots at the start, Freeze Man will jump straight up. Once he lands, he releases a Freeze Cracker straight forward, then starts running from there. Upon hitting a wall, this Freeze Cracker explodes into six short-ranged small projectiles that will catch Mega Man if he was too close. In addition to dealing damage, Freeze Cracker can actually solidify Mega Man in ice if he makes contact with the projectile, leaving him vulnerable to a direct tackle from Freeze Man himself.

Once Freeze Man reaches the wall, this is when his primary pattern kicks into motion. He does a very high jump, moving forward slightly, and throws a Freeze Cracker straight down to the ground (he either throws it right after he jumps or at the tail end of his jump). This Freeze Cracker creates two waves on both sides that will ice up the whole floor and make it slippery. Mega Man has to jump over these waves or his feet will get trapped, rendering him unable to jump (until he gets hit out of it). After this attack, Freeze Man charges up another Freeze Cracker and sends it to the ceiling before breaking into another run. This Freeze Cracker triggers the small icicles on the ceiling to grow into being pointy and harmful before falling down. These icicles activate two at a time, spreading away from the point of Freeze Cracker's impact and covering the whole floor. The icicles are tricky to dodge, but they remove the icy floor upon striking the ground. From here, Freeze Man will use his wall Freeze Cracker once he reaches the wall, and do another run after that.

Usually, Freeze Man follows a set order of attacks. However, he may briefly break from this pattern and do a different action instead of the anticipated one, but it can still be reacted to:

  • Wall Freeze Cracker -> Run -> Ground Freeze Cracker -> Ceiling Freeze Cracker -> Run -> Repeat

Weaknesses[]

Freeze Man's main weakness is Junk Shield, which does 4 damage AND temporarily traps him in junk before he breaks out. However, this can mess up his pattern and make it a bit awkward to dodge certain attacks (if he was running before getting hit, he'll do a jumping attack from the center of the room). He also has a secondary weakness to Scorch Wheel, which does 3 damage. If Freeze Man is struck by his own Freeze Cracker, everything freezes around him so he can do his intro pose, sort of like a "freeze-frame" picture. He then heals himself by 4 points.

Trivia[]

  • When the player faces him again in Dr. Wily's Castle and hits him with Freeze Cracker (his own weapon), the game will freeze and he'll look at the player as if to mock them. After a brief moment his health is restored and the game will resume. This makes Freeze Man one of the only Robot Masters to break the fourth wall.
    • Cut Man also breaks the fourth wall twice; in Mega Man: The Power Battle and its sequel, he literally cuts a hole in the game screen to make his entrance.
  • When Mega Man enters the room where Freeze Man will be fought, if the player does not press any buttons when the fight begins, he will taunt Mega Man and strike a pose towards the screen. A similar thing occurs with Skull Man in Mega Man 4, although Skull Man simply sits there, as he is not programmed to switch to a different pose.
  • Freeze Man's purpose - creating energy by splitting hot and cold temperatures - may be a reference to the thought experiment Maxwell's demon, wherein a theoretical entity is able to sort particles into hot and cold halves with no effort, thus creating energy whilst using none. The idea is debated in discussions of the laws of thermodynamics.
  • In Mega Man: The Power Battle, Freeze Man's theme is a remix of Gemini Man's theme, whilst his actual theme is used for Ice Man.
  • Freeze Man and Cloud Man are the only Robot Masters from Mega Man 7 whose mugshots are not based off their official artwork.
  • Freeze Man's name was used in a boss submission for Mega Man 6.
  • Freeze Man's weakness to the Junk Shield may be a reference to his original purpose of being built as a non polluting energy robot, as junk causes pollution.
