Oil Field, also simply known as Flame Man's Stage, is a stage that appeared in Mega Man 6 that has Flame Man as the boss.

Description[]

The stage takes place in an Arabian temple at daytime, with sand dunes and other temples being visible in the background. The stage's unique gimmick immediately becomes apparent: there are oil slicks along the floor. If Mega Man walks along the oil, his walking speed is decreased and so is his jump height. However, there will be a few fire enemies (Fire Telly and Fire Boy) who shoot fiery projectiles, and these can actually set an entire row of oil on fire permanently. Burning oil is an instant kill just like spikes, so it is recommended to avoid being in the oil if possible or defeat the fire enemies before they can burn the oil. If Mega Man dies, any oil that was burned will actually stay burned until the player gets a Game Over. Eventually, Mega Man will come across the Pookers. They can be defeated with a fully-charged buster shot, but if knocked into a pool of oil, they actually turn into a cloudy platform unique to this stage. Mega Man can stand on the platform to ride across the oil, regular or burning, and with each time he lands on it, the platform dashes forward a short distance, in the direction that Mega Man is facing. After the Pooker section, Mega Man heads into a red underground cave for the final stretch. Beating this stage will additionally reward Mega Man with the Rush Power Adaptor.

Valuable pickups to look out for:

  • 1UP10A 1-UP: This pickup is hidden inside of a breakable block near the start of the stage, which happens to be the only breakable block in the whole stage. Given this stage is the one that rewards Mega Man with the Power Adaptor, the only thing able to actually break blocks, this pickup can only be obtained if Mega Man revisits the stage.
  • ETank1 E-Tank: This pickup is in the red cave in plain sight, on the left side of a lower platform just above the oil pools. It is protected by a Cyber Gabyoall. Mega Man can either drop down from above to grab it (which can be risky if the Cyber Gabyoall isn't destroyed), but if the oil to the left of the platform wasn't set on fire, Mega Man can simply jump from the oil to grab the pickup.

Trivia[]

  • When going through the stage, certain oil pools will already be set on fire without getting hit by a fire attack. This is because some oil pools across the stage are actually tied together in the game's code, meaning if the one earlier in the stage gets burned, than the one tied to it will also be burned. This is most noticeable with the second oil pool in the Pooker room as it will likely get burned by two Fire Tellies, causing one oil pool in the red cave to already be alight.
