"If you waste your weapon even once, you're out"
Roll, Rockman 2 (Rockman Complete Works version) Navi Mode (translated)

Boobeam Trap (ブービームトラップ Būbīmu Torappu) is the boss of the fourth Wily Castle stage from Mega Man 2, a resistant trap. The room has five flashing beam firing devices in the walls that fire simultaneously at intervals, flashing faster when they're about to fire. They are protected by a reinforced hood that can only be destroyed with the Crash Bomber. The room also has destructible blocks protecting some of the beam launchers.

Mega Man 2[]

Boobeam Trap is the boss of Wily Stage 4. There are 5 wall drones spread around the room, and multiple breakable walls blocking your paths. All 3 items will be useful for navigating around the room and getting around the breakable walls.

Attack Pattern[]

Each wall drone will attack simultaneously by firing a fast, pink projectile at the player, all at once. This is telegraphed by them flashing together. Other than that, they do not do anything else and remain stationary until they are ready to attack again. They can be destroyed immediately by Crash Bomb but are immune to every other weapon.

Strategy[]

This boss requires strategy to be defeated, as the player can only have seven Crash Bombs at max capacity, and there are 5 wall drones to destroy. There are a couple of breakable walls that have to be broken to access a drone, but most of them don't need to be destroyed, as it's possible to maneuver around them with Item-1, Item-3, and accurate jumps. If you run out of Crash Bombs before you destroy all the drones, the fight is unwinnable and you are forced to die, returning to the checkpoint before the first moving platform and being able to refill the weapon's energy before returning to the boss.

One Crash Bomb Left Trick[]

it is possible to save one Crash Bomb in your inventory. One of the drones is very close to a breakable wall that protects another drone (these 2 are the ones on the far left). If the player can jump up to the highest platform with a precise 2-tile jump (just adjacent of the higher one), they will be in position to do the trick. The player must now place a Crash Bomb in between the drone and the wall so the explosion destroys both of them, saving an extra Crash Bomb for later.

Mega Man (Archie Comics)[]

The Boobeam Trap made an appearance in Issue 12 of the Archie Comics series. Bomb Man helps Mega Man defeat it, but as he used all his Hyper Bombs, he stayed behind while Mega Man proceeds to confront Dr. Wily.

Yamato Man

Rockman enters the Boobeam Trap room while searching for Wily in his fortress. The walls protecting the turrets are made of crystal, allowing their shots to pass while protecting them from Rockman's shots. Rockman has some trouble figuring out what he should do, using an E Can during his planning, but he managed to destroy the trap after forming a strategy with Clash Bombs and Item-1.

Trivia[]

  • The fight against Boobeam Trap can be made easier by exploiting a glitch from resuming a paused game. By pressing the START button repeatedly, Mega Man will rapidly repeat the teleporting animation which, if possible, can allow shots fired from a Boobeam Trap to pass though him without taking any damage. The best time to execute this trick is when the Boobeam Traps are flashing or when their projectiles are visible on the screen, otherwise Mega Man will get hit. This glitch will only work on the NES and Mega Man Legacy Collection versions.
