Synopsis for "Broken Heart, Broken Mask!"
Zorro, using his whip, has just disarmed Henry Bishop of his pistol as he aimed it at Don Carlos. Don Carlos had accused him of cheating in cards and Henry Bishop wanted to take his life. Because of the interruption, Bishop, later aims of pistol at Zorro , and Victoria Escalante intervenes just in time to be shot herself. Mendoza races to help Victoria and the Alcalde is trying to shoot at Zorro, but the juxtaposition of Mendoza preserves Zorro. Mendoza takes her to Dr. Hernandez. Zorro returns as Don Diego to see how Victoria is doing. She is not doing well and is unconscious, but the bullet had been removed. She continued to remain unconscious for the next week as other events transpire.
Zorro is seen burning his mask and cape, as he blames his disguised as the reason that Victoria was shot. Apparently, Don Carlos challenge Henry Bishop again, and they had a duel by pistols in the morning. Don Carlos died, and as he was dying, he told Don Alejandro to give his estate to his farm hands and servants. Henry Bishop had claimed the property and the Alcalde supports this, but later asks of course to receive a 50% death tax. In a short period of time the populace becomes unruly, because the Alcalde has leveled a tax due immediately before the end of the year, and most persons did not have this. Even Mendoza is accosted by ruffians, and even stated where was Zorro to help him. Dr. Hernandez was speaking to Don Diego and stated he had done all he could for Victoria and asked Don Diego if he believed in prayer, and he had affirmed he did, and the doctor suggested he use it.
Don Alejandro confronts Bishop in the Village Square. Bishop challenges him to a duel the following morning. Early the next day, Felipe noticed that Don Alejandro was leaving and he notified Don Diego of this. Shortly before Victoria, had regained consciousness, and urges Zorro to intercede for Don Alejandro. At the duel, Don Sebastion was a second for Alejandro. Shortly after this Zorro arrives and confronts Bishop with a drawn sword, and Bishop states, I thought this would be done with out weapons. The confrontation begins mano y mano, and Bishop throws dirt in Zorro’s face, but in the end, Zorro subdues him rather promptly. The Alcalde arrives, but Zorro has a loaded pistol pointed at him, and he concedes the property and estate of Don Carlos goes to his beneficiaries. In the end, Victoria, now walking around in full strength, converses with Zorro, and they exchange kisses, and she states she feels a bit warm, but looks saddened.
Notes
- Story by Pressman, script by Rimmer.
- It appeared that Victoria Escalante had a gunshot to the chest on the right side, and she lost consciousness rather quickly. She remained unconscious for a week. The only possible explanation would be significant blood loss ( but no significant blood on operating table). Normally if you’re alive and breathing, you’re gonna be conscious. There was no head trauma to cause a coma.
