Synopsis for "Slipaway"
The Heroes for Hire arrive at their office when they’re suddenly attacked by a costumed man with a gas emitting gun. A woman arrives and calls the police to report a murder thinking them deceased. At Manhattan City Hospital, a doctor tells Misty Knight, Colleen Wing, and Rafael Scarfe that he’s putting Power Man and Iron Fist into intensive care because an unknown toxin is killing them.
Later, Angela Tortelli, wife of the mobster Joey Tortelli, arrives at Nightwing Restorations and hires the Daughters of the Dragon for $20,000 to protect her and tells them her previous hires were the Heroes for Hire and they had been taken out by a hit man hired by a man named Caesar Cicero. Meanwhile, the hitman, calling himself Impasse, confronts Cicero and tells him that he offed the Heroes for Hire because Cicero had helped him in the past with a drug charge and that he had agreed to have germ warfare experiments done on him to avoid a jail sentence and that he wants Cicero to run the mob. After he leaves Cicero, Misty and Colleen break into Cicero’s place where he tells them of Impasse and his germ gun, not wanting to have the responsibilities demanded of him by Impasse.
At the hospital, doctors are struggling to revive Power Man who has gone into cardiac arrest but are finally able to restore his heartbeat. Impasse breaks into the Manhattan A.D.A.’s office hoping to take care of Maxine Lavender for her attempts to prosecute Cicero but Misty Knight shoots him before he can hurt her seriously. Misty and Colleen fight with Impasse hoping to recover the gun but Impasse sickens Colleen while holding his hand over her mouth because of changes that occurred to him during the germ experimentation. Impasse flees and steals a cab from a woman after gassing her but she recovers and is recognized to be Angela Tortelli by Misty. She tells Misty and Colleen that her name is actually Vienna and that Impasse stole his gun from an unnamed foreign nation and that she has a tracker on the cab, which Misty angrily takes from her. Vienna later consoles the distressed doctor treating Luke and Danny and tells him to take a break and makes a menacing comment about him having nothing to come back to.
Misty and Colleen arrive at Cicero’s just in time to find Impasse attempting to sicken him for turning him into the cops. They battle Impasse but are both exposed to his skin and sickened despite defeating him. Vienna arrives and says she’ll sell them three vaccine doses for $20,000. Misty requests that she give them to Luke, Danny, and Colleen, but Vienna suggests Luke and Danny are beyond needing help. Suddenly, Power Man and Iron Fist burst into the room fully recovered while Vienna disappears and they tell Misty and Colleen that they’d been cured by a mysterious woman who left a note to come there. They carry the ill Misty and Colleen from the scene with everyone having received the vaccine.
